That was my Cougar! My personalized plate was "GRRR428". The story goes it was purchased to haul a boat in NJ. It still had the Ford installed hitch, lost during restoration at the body shop. LOVED that car. My jaw dropped seeing this video lol

I love high performance Ford's but I like high performance Mercury's even better. Mercury's we're a nicer overall car than a Ford. I'd love to see a MCotW video on a 427 powered 1963 Marauder S-55. Same body style as a 63 1/2 Ford Galaxie but much more rare. The 63 1/2 R-Code 427 Galaxie is one of my favorite Ford's ever made. Beautiful body style

Awesome ride. My favorite Cougar was always the BOSS 302 Eliminator but the 428 CJ was a great high performance engine for both the street or strip...especially with the 3.91 or 4.30 rear axle. I'd take this car over a 428 CJ Mustang any day of the week

Syk...Syk...syk...love this ferocious puddy tat...was I the only one that detected a bit of jealousy from a guy with a 440? Love it when someone just has to pipe up about his junk when confronted by a ride that just oooozes badassedness...roflmfao! 😎

A guy who lived in my neighborhood had a 428CJ Eliminator, a friend has a Boss 302 Eliminator and another friend had a 390XR7. I had a '70 351 Eliminator for about 2 weeks that I saved from a guy who was going to make a dirt track car out of it. I like the Cougars. This is a nice one.

The stock camshaft was a joke yet the 428 CJ still had serious power. A cam change really wakes them up .

I agree. The 428 and 429 Cobra Jet engines never performed like big block Mopars and Chevrolets. Maybe it was the heavy, slow C-6 transmission. The Boss 429 had the hardware to be one of the baddest cars ever built, but again they did not perform.

Really? Well, here's a Hemmings' article about it (hemmings.com/blog/2013/09/02/driving-impressions-1970-oldsmobile-toronado-gt/). Anyone up to the challenge of getting Muscle Car of the Week to buy a Toro GT?? Kevin, what d'ya reckon?

The 428 Cobra Jet Cougar, or the 1970 Buick GS. Which one was the fastest in the quarter mile?
@hiitsstillme3 жыл бұрын
A 455 stage 1 Buick would take it. Only a few cars from the day could stand up to that, in stock form.
@richardholmes71993 жыл бұрын
@@hiitsstillme That was my assumption.

@@hiitsstillme My assumption was the stage 1 Buick. Also I came across a muscle car review video. The video stated a car review magazine reported a scorching 13.1 in the quarter.

69 was the peak of muscle cars. 70 took all the horsepower away. I'd argue the 70 chevelle still maintained the hp
@nicholasmaher91758 жыл бұрын
Yeah . . .NO. 1970 was the peak for Muscle Cars for all the Big 3, 1971 saw GM and Ford detune the cars just a little, Mopar not at all and in 1972 they all fell off a cliff and were all significantly down on power.
@jeremythompson98955 жыл бұрын
1970 was the peak of muscle cars. In 1971 GM lowered all their compression ratios to make their cars run on unleaded gas and meet emissions regulations. In 1972 Chrysler and Ford did the same. By 1975 the muscle car era was officially over with the introduction of catalytic converters. Damn the EPA! They ruined the greatest era in automotive history
@deanstevenson65273 жыл бұрын
@@jeremythompson9895 1969, despite the Chevette 450 hp LS6 of 1970, was the year of the fastest of all the Big Fours cars. All the reported 1/4 mile times dropped down to the high 12 and low 13s on most tested Muscle Cars. For 1970, performance was blunted by Californian new emissions air pumps and sometimes Distrovac, each required on Fords FE, the few 1970 modle year Clevelands made in June 1969, the CA market Bosses and anything with high compression.
