Lets install our 1969 Mustang Mach 1 front spoiler. I don't know if this car originally had one, but I am installing this air dam! The front valence isn't original to the car, as the original one had damage on it and it was easier to restore and use this one. It was a used Ford part that I had in my attic.
The front spoiler was a Ford option, or maybe a dealer option, that got installed at the Ford dealer and not at the factory. The one I am installing is a reproduction from National Parts Depot.

@@SmackeysGarage I don’t know which brand to go with for the 31 spline axles so I’m just taking in whatever recommendations people have. I do want to upgrade the 9” from the standard carrier to the Daytona style as well…. Thank God my wife’s been really cool about this build.. LOL

My son just bought a 69 Mach 1 yesterday it is a f code factory 3-speed same exact color as your mustang. He showed me The fold down seat, pretty cool option.

Nice! He must have been excited to bring that car home. The fold down seat is awesome to have. I never have people back there so having it down lets me put speakers there.

If the engine code is “F” then it can’t be a Mach 1. F is for a 302. 351 was the smallest engine available in a Mach 1 for 69. Another way to confirm is the door tag will list the body style. Mach 1’s have the unique body style of 63C. They’re all great cars to own. But the machs carry a higher value than a stock fastback… so you don’t want to pay Mach 1 prices for a non-Mach… hopefully the seller didn’t try to scam him or try to misrepresent…
@sammymarks9840
@sammymarks9840 2 жыл бұрын
So it's probably not a real Mach One just a regular fastback? Wow thanks for the info
@sammymarks9840
@sammymarks9840 2 жыл бұрын
Correct the engine that's in it right now is a f code which is a 302 but the vehicle is actually a real Mach 1

Nice! My 69 Mach didn’t have the original engine either. But it has made me free to modify the car as I see fit… since it will never be a numbers matching original.

Smackey, I just installed the same spoiler on my own Mach. For now I have used heavy tent clamps instead of drilling the screws so that I could reverse the install if needed or wanted. It's super sturdy and not going anywhere. Also managed to remove any gaps along the whole fitment. In time I will have the spoiler professionally fitted once I decide to keep it. It looks fantastic!!! Shark nose baby!
@SmackeysGarage
@SmackeysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Glad to hear you were able to get it really tight with the tent clamps. Did you only use the three holes at the bottom to secure it to? It seemed pretty sturdy when I used those to line everything up.

@@SmackeysGarage So basically I followed your video: bolted the spoiler to the valence using the three bolts first (middle one just re-use original bolt and seated nut). Then from the inside out I started installing these industrial grade tent clamps capable of withstanding a lot of (wind)force for securing tarps etc. They are metal but have soft end tips and strong springs in them. Each clamp secured the spoiler to the valence at that location. I used 10 smaller ones (5-6 cm clamp depth) along most of the length and beginnings of the valence curves towards the outer sides and two bigger ones on the outer sides (8-10 cm clamp depth) to make the outer parts of the curve work. I 'extended' the reach of the final two clamps on each side by shoving shallow metal hooks below each clamp so that the clamp-down point actually gets extended to further away from the valence perimeter and into the spoiler corners to get it nice and close to the valence (i.e. otherwise the ends of the spoiler have major gaps). Finaly I placed zipties as a safety precaution: 1) between the metal hooks and clamps so if they were to vibrate loose they would not fall onto the road but just hang from their 'parent' clamp, and 2) left and right bolt hole locations (you will see each one has a little gap where one can wriggle a ziptie through) where I have ziptied the car frame, valence and spoiler together. It's never coming loose accidentaly for sure. I think the three bolt locations are great for first locating the spoiler but then additional reinforcement (drilling & screws or heavy clamping as I have done) is required to reinforce the spoiler because it will get quite some force exerted on it from high speed driving and given the leverage arm from the lowest part of the spoiler all the way to the bolts location, that thing could start wobbiling if not secured more firmly to make it more rigid.
@SmackeysGarage
@SmackeysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Oh I get it now. I misunderstood what the tent clamps are but looked them up. That's a good solution to hold it on temporarily or decide if you like the look of the spoiler on the car. That is a great idea. I also like the thought of ziptieing it incase there is any issue with them falling off while you are driving. That way they would not be a hazard to your vehicle or others on the road.

Yep… drilling into the lower valence 14 times!! I couldn’t believe it either. It would be interesting to see if I’m 69 they only used the three bolts and then updated their installation instructions in 70 because of it coming apart.

Hey, Love your videos, I've added the front spoiler to my 69 Mach 1 and now I'd like to add a rear spoiler - have you done any videos on how to install the rear spoiler to a 69 Fastback? Cheers Greg
@SmackeysGarage
@SmackeysGarage Ай бұрын
Thanks! I haven't done any videos on the install of the rear spoiler. I did install it before I started the channel. The easiest way to do it is to buy the support brackets and work from there. I'm assuming you have a 69 trunk and not a 70 trunk lid. The 70s had two small circles cut out to flush mount the wing to the trunk lid, and then the support brackets. If you send me an email, I can send you a picture if you want.

~10” high, 72” long. They are the two piece race ramps. They are fantastic for hard surfaces like a garage floor or a paved driveway. Probably one of my best purchases. They have varying rear wheel heights but the ones I ordered were 8”
