My dad was a Plymouth guy, bought a 64 Sport Fury brand new with a 426 wedge in it, sold it a year before I was born in 69. Then in 2012 he bought a 70 AAR Cuda clone built on a 73 Cuda. Then in 2015 he found the twin to his 426 Sport Fury and bought that. In 2017 he bought a 36 Plymouth business coupe street rod. He had Mopar on the brain, with a Plymouth bent. He left me the eye searing green Cuda when he passed earlier this year, my siblings got the rest of the vehicles he had. You should not go robbing a bank while driving that Cuda. I am a hardcore Pontiac man, four GTOs, four Trans Ams, six Formulas, six LeMans/Tempests, a Ventura, and more. I absolutely adore the Pontiac V8, so easy and cheap to make them haul ass, plus nobody other than Pontiac guys can tell a 326 from a 455 or a 540 built on an aftermarket block. So dad and I both own(ed) and are(were) fans of the orphans.

Introduced in 1955, like Chevy’s small-block, the “Strato-Streak” displaced 287-ci and made 180 hp with a two-barrel carburetor, and 200 hp with a four-barrel carburetor. Over time, this engine grew all the way up to 455ci by the late 1960s without any changes to its external dimensions. I'm not a MoPar guy but I can't stand it when someone calls a GTX a "Get-X" like that old time spokesman the short film clip. To me it's like putting ketchup on a hotdog. Just curious. Do you MoPar fans cringe when you hear "Get-X" yes or no???

Yes lol

Nah, that one doesn’t bother me. The one I hate is calling a Challenger a ‘Chally’. The real question is, what’s wrong with ketchup on a hot dog!? lol

@@hellraiserx9490 That is exactly what I was thinking. I had a 68' GTO with a bigger cam and bigger carb with 373 gears and a turbo 400 slap stick tranny... thought it was pretty bad ass. Today I have a 2017 Charger Hellcat. My guess is, the Hellcat would leave my old GTO in the dust by 20 cars or so!

There are no muscle cars now days. Turbocharged mini cars ain't muscle cars.

Awesome cars! Always love the GTO's no matter what year but any old Mopar is cool in my book too. Anyone else notice in the first race from half to two thirds track on the GTX made the GTO look like it was tied to a stump. You think he let off?
@h.r.puffnstuff87054 жыл бұрын
Lol that's where a 440 really starts turning on. You better hard gap a 440 car at the beginning. That big end pull was no joke.
@martinblack70862 жыл бұрын
That was the torque kicking in on the Mopar! If not for the 3:23 rear end GTO wouldn't have squeaked by....
@Jhihmoac4 жыл бұрын
If you wanted a "sealed deal" type race, you should've replaced the GTX with a Roadrunner from that era... RRs were bare-boned emphasis on drivetrain with all of the gingerbread removed (console, bucket seats, sport steering wheel, radio/8track, a/c, etc) for weight reduction, and were strictly 4 on the floor with a nice rear-end ratio...Roadrunners in 68 and 69 were degraded cars meant for modifications or bare-boned racing on the track or strip, while you went for the GTX for all the "goodies"... Trim and gingerbread package options didn't appear on the RR until 1971, when the car utilized a Satellite body, and the Belvidere body had been discontinued in 1970... The GTX had only one final year in 71 with a Satellite body, in which the gingerbread was standard, along with the 383 magnum as standard, with the 440 as an option...
@mitchholmquist27412 жыл бұрын
Road Runner's even early one's could be optioned as pig's too, and GTX's were never available with 383 from the factory, and always shared the satellite body.
@smiddysmidton83134 жыл бұрын
Well the GTO has 3.9-1 drag gears and the GTX has a normal street rear end ,there is a big advantage there .The GTO would be a pretty terrible street car with a TH400 3 speed
