Dalton, I have three things to say: 1. I’m sorry I threw shade on your plan to use the GM alternator a couple videos back. As soon as I saw the all-thread pivot rod going back to the head I knew you were on the right track; that was my fix many years ago on my 318 ‘68 Dart sedan (AKA the best $250 I ever spent). I should never have doubted you - won’t happen again. 2. As a life long MoPar guy, I can say with confidence the Plymouth doesn’t hate you; it smells fear. 3. Again, as a MoPar guy, I have to say you’ve got it backwards: Sell the Goat to finance the ‘Runner (I know you would never concede to that) Another great video!

Total respect for you getting it running again for the first time in 30 years!!! If I just had the cash. Seriously. Can't wait to see the Vansformation!!!
@auteurfiddler87062 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see that Cougar myself!
@mikebrown80652 жыл бұрын
@Auteur Fiddler , unfortunately it's not even a good parts car. But the "story" behind it is the ONLY reason I want to see it through. It is rotted out horrible, but the original owner purchased it 05/25/70 and had it only a short time before being drafted into Vietnam; according to the second owner's brother and his best friend. The brother also said that every year he and his family around the holidays would go up to their grandparents house and see it sitting under a pine tree next to the garage. Every year, they would knock on the door and ask if they would sell it. The old couple would say no it was their son's car and they wouldn't sell it. Fast forward to November of 1982, same thing, but the old lady said to them, my husband recently passed away, so give me your name, address, and number and I'll leave it with the title. I am not well, and I'll leave a note with it. ". Once again this is what I was told. Anyway, the beginning of May, 1983 "John" was notified by mail from an attorney that he could buy it from the estate. John took a loan from the bank ($2,146.40) and purchased it 05/25/1983. He put a lot of work into it (they said about 1.5 years until he could drive it) repainted it, wrecked it, repainted it again, and wrecked it again. Unfortunately as he was repairing it for the second time, he passed away suddenly. I don't know when exactly. I purchased it 05/23/2012. It was stripped of all the "Eliminator" specific parts and it had a '69 nose bugger welded on it. I found another 70 Cougar parts car and transferred the parts to make it run: until my buddy and I were just about to go for a ride, something wasn't quite right with the steering. The frame rail was rotted out horrible where the power steering mounted. THE FRAME RAIL WAS COVERED BY METAL TAPE AND SPRAYED OVER WITH UNDERCOATING 😳😱☠️☠️☠️ So out of respect to the first owner who I was told is considered to be MIA/POW of the Vietnam War, I felt that the vehicle deserved to be redone as a respect for our veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. My way of saying thank you for your service. God bless.

I've had cars that hated me, so I understand the feeling. One was a '77 Firebird. That car thought having a good time meant to stall and not restart for 45 minutes in the worst places possible. Really though, that car's problem was mostly the brand new design spread bore Holley 2 that I fought and fought and fought with, replacing a blown power valve with almost every tank of gas. There is a reason those carbs were only made for a very short time, then the Holley 2 name was moved to the remanned OE carbs to save face. The other one was an '86 IROC Z/28. That one thought I was it's sugar daddy. The first 3 months I owned that POS I replaced the radiator, the engine and the cat (smog testing where I lived). Never had any problems like you're having with Mopars, but it could happen. Back in the time when cars had personality, it does seem that they almost all had their own spirit. Some were not so nice.

Trans might be gummed up with varnish. If someone wanted it they could maybe fix it by flushing it with some diesel fuel. That's my guess. Have a 78 dodge b300 with a 360 and an a-904 trans. I know this is old but I'm gonna say it anyway, if you don't wanna deal with cables and are capable of making a few 45° to 180° brackets(just cut em out of something, doesn't really matter, I use an old truck frame), draw out what you think you need, use some decent all thread, cut it to length, put some cheap o-rings on it about every two-three inches, slide a piece of aluminum tubing over the all thread with the o-rings on it and cap it off with a properly sized heim. Make sure your bolts going through the heim are snug and you're good. You're brackets to get your angles just bolt anywhere that's open and make sure they have good, free range of motion. Usually only take 1-3 brackets depending on what you're doing, it feels way better, and you don't have to worry about cables.

That Roadrunner reminds me of an old joke: A Texan visiting a watering hole (aka: a pub) somewhere in NZ: "You know, I've been looking at the size of the land around your houses here and I gotta say that back home I can get in my truck, fire it up and drive all day without getting from one side of my land to the other." A young Maori bloke (listening to the Texan): "Yeah, I had a car like that once too, eh....." You got it to move, declared a victory and moving on.....and fair enough too, mate. Like you said, for some reason the Rolled Runner just doesn't seem to like you and fights you with every erg of its being. Some builds are like that......and some you win, some you lose.....but they all teach us something......like "maybe it wasn't such a good idea to begin with". I've had a few of those revelations myself.....and it hasn't helped a bit when it came to the next time I saw a project that I thought I could do something with! On to the White Vantastic!

Basically the clutch packs fell apart and basically heat welded themselves to where it was stuck in first gear, you could shift through all of the gears but it was always 1st, going in reverse would bind the trans up like you were holding the makes in gear.
