In what is likely the last video on this beat-up old classic '69 Roadrunner, my son JD and I craft and cobble together a mount for the alternator, driveshaft, transmission cooler, pan, filter, and lines. I mean, really, this car hates me! The cumulative effect of all the hassles of rebuilding and reviving this old muscle car has pushed me to the point where I am selling the car - YES, this Classic Muscle Car is FOR SALE for the low, low price of $4,000 - contact me if interested. Proceeds to fund the Holey Goat performance engine rebuild. No matter my frustration with the car, I am calling this MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! We pulled this abandoned car out of a junkyard and gave it a second gasp at life after sitting, left for dead, for some 25 or so years.
UPDATE 12/28/2022: The Roadrunner has SOLD!

I've seen many back yard mechanics, but you take the cake. If you're going to teach your son how to do things, then for gods sake. please teach right, safety, the proper use of hand tools. I couldn't even make 5 minutes, good luck and I sincerely hope you don't injure or kill someone.

Dalton, I have three things to say: 1. I’m sorry I threw shade on your plan to use the GM alternator a couple videos back. As soon as I saw the all-thread pivot rod going back to the head I knew you were on the right track; that was my fix many years ago on my 318 ‘68 Dart sedan (AKA the best $250 I ever spent). I should never have doubted you - won’t happen again. 2. As a life long MoPar guy, I can say with confidence the Plymouth doesn’t hate you; it smells fear. 3. Again, as a MoPar guy, I have to say you’ve got it backwards: Sell the Goat to finance the ‘Runner (I know you would never concede to that) Another great video!

It's cool to me how much he catches on and plays out your sarcasm the way he does. Honestly most young men his age wouldn't be quite as savvy as he is to your crude style humor. Love the style, great content and really enjoy seeing you two interact in the shop together. Keep up the good work and great job with the camera JD. I'm so glad I went back and watched the entire series. Made so much sense. What I'm wondering is exactly how and when the transmission decided to actually give you first (and park) ... b/c the vid went from "no gears) to first/park and wild ride around the yard. Your son will remember these moments forever and will be retelling these stories to his grandchildren a half a century from now. Way to go Dalton. :)

I've had cars that hated me, so I understand the feeling. One was a '77 Firebird. That car thought having a good time meant to stall and not restart for 45 minutes in the worst places possible. Really though, that car's problem was mostly the brand new design spread bore Holley 2 that I fought and fought and fought with, replacing a blown power valve with almost every tank of gas. There is a reason those carbs were only made for a very short time, then the Holley 2 name was moved to the remanned OE carbs to save face. The other one was an '86 IROC Z/28. That one thought I was it's sugar daddy. The first 3 months I owned that POS I replaced the radiator, the engine and the cat (smog testing where I lived). Never had any problems like you're having with Mopars, but it could happen. Back in the time when cars had personality, it does seem that they almost all had their own spirit. Some were not so nice.

I know this is old but I'm gonna say it anyway, if you don't wanna deal with cables and are capable of making a few 45° to 180° brackets(just cut em out of something, doesn't really matter, I use an old truck frame), draw out what you think you need, use some decent all thread, cut it to length, put some cheap o-rings on it about every two-three inches, slide a piece of aluminum tubing over the all thread with the o-rings on it and cap it off with a properly sized heim. Make sure your bolts going through the heim are snug and you're good. You're brackets to get your angles just bolt anywhere that's open and make sure they have good, free range of motion. Usually only take 1-3 brackets depending on what you're doing, it feels way better, and you don't have to worry about cables.

That Roadrunner reminds me of an old joke: A Texan visiting a watering hole (aka: a pub) somewhere in NZ: "You know, I've been looking at the size of the land around your houses here and I gotta say that back home I can get in my truck, fire it up and drive all day without getting from one side of my land to the other." A young Maori bloke (listening to the Texan): "Yeah, I had a car like that once too, eh....." You got it to move, declared a victory and moving on.....and fair enough too, mate. Like you said, for some reason the Rolled Runner just doesn't seem to like you and fights you with every erg of its being. Some builds are like that......and some you win, some you lose.....but they all teach us something......like "maybe it wasn't such a good idea to begin with". I've had a few of those revelations myself.....and it hasn't helped a bit when it came to the next time I saw a project that I thought I could do something with! On to the White Vantastic!

The car was rolled and presumed dead. Then, what ever life it had left was burned, and never taken to the burn ward. It was enjoying its dirt nap. Then you come along throwing parts and self tappers at it. It’s not cursed, it wants to go back to sleep. Put this one on market place, and let’s get some van shenanigans going!

Lol I had a 66 Plymouth Satellite that has a 273/904 that that happened to the trans as well, it also had gunk in the pan which was clutch pack material. Basically the clutch packs fell apart and basically heat welded themselves to where it was stuck in first gear, you could shift through all of the gears but it was always 1st, going in reverse would bind the trans up like you were holding the makes in gear. Good to see the rolledrunner get to move at least before you sell it though!

I am not really up on the names of certain parts within a transmission, so sorry if it doesn't sound right. Your transmission is shot, I am sure you know this, lol, but why is there first, no reverse? I think you will find first is actually 2nd, and you could manually shift to 3rd, not automatic shift The first gear to go in them is reverse. I had an old Chevy truck I run almost dry of transmission fluid, it did fill it, but too late damage had already been done, although she did drive for a few days, I went to put her in reverse and a big smash and reverse was gone, and 1st was gone, but 2nd and third worked and I drove that beast the rest of the summer like that. Sun yoke, if I remember the name right is what let's go. I still would love to see you put a junkyard transmission in that thing and make another holy goat, a brother to holy goat, lol Great job always enjoy your vids, still LMAO.

That tranny pan was interesting. When I dropped mine (a 727), it had even less fluid in it. It was never out of the car/van. Explain how it can drain even lower than the lowest seam. In my case, that would be the top of the pan. A new filter and some fluid and it works fine. I'm baffled. On the bright side I discovered (I'm not a Mopar guy) that most of the bolts are through holes so the ones you break, just drill out, use a longer bolt and a nut.

I'd love to buy it from you. But you see, here in the great white north we have something called "vehicle safeties" so if I were to drive this thing on our roads, we'd get arrested and thrown in jail some where on mars or Pluto...you know that planet that they say isn't a planet! *eye roll*

Coming from a Road Runner fanatic I'm glad to see this one get a second chance at life. I have a huge appreciation for the work you and your son put into the Road Runner as well as the other vehicles and videos. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the van and Eagle. One more thing, if the Road Runner is "cursed," it couldn't have anything to do with being a Plymouth could it? you know, like that possessed '58 Plymouth Fury known as Christine.

I like how on every project you check when filling to see if its pouring on the ground. I've been guilty of my tractor oil changes losing a quart or 2 because of the non existent drain plug.
