As usual, a few words about my videos: these episodes document my efforts to restore an old VW Bug and are not intended as how-to's. I am a professor of English by trade, and I have no formal mechanic training (which is often quite obvious). I'm also into making semi-interesting/entertaining videos showing how I've gone about my restoration work. But I make no guarantee that my results will be your results, nor that you will remain injury free if you try to do what I did. You may harm yourself, others, and/or your car if you copy me. If you do, that's your fault, not mine. Please be safer than I am, make safety first not third, and do not do anything if you don't know what you are doing. If you have any doubts at all, consult a qualified automotive professional, and pay him or her to do it right and safely.

That’s great to hear, man. Glad you’re making progress on your own VW. I’m slowing down on mine now, just enjoying it. But I’ve got a front beam to narrow over the summer, so that’ll be fun.

I’m building up the courage and the parts to make my own 4” narrowed beam. It’s one of my summer projects. That will be paired with rear drop plates in the next episode-whenever that comes out,

It’ll be my fifth! I’m addicted. I made two of the four, and the others are a desert sand Baja and 62 RI MIJ in candy apple red.

You can never have too many. Pretty amazing the sounds a plank of wood with some magnets and strings attached to it can make.

I just finished binge watching tour vids over the last few days and I have to say, very nicely done Sir. I got to see a little real world experience on subjects I’ve not yet tackled, and a few laughs along the way. Your car is awesome, and you should be rightly proud of her. Only one thing.... 8 months? Where you been boy?

You needed to have a matching coil for the Pertronix. Electronic distributors or distributor conversion kits need a coil that works with them.

Man that is one clean looking engine! Wish you would have shown the actual installation of the distributor. Does the engine have to be at top dead center?
@SchoolStGarage
@SchoolStGarage 5 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t have to be but it helps. You just need to use a test light to get the rotor positioned right when the first cylinder is firing. Then you pull the dizzy, put in a new one, and rotate it until the first cylinder lights (without turning the engine, only the dizzy). That’ll get the new one in the same spot as the old one. You’ll have it close enough to start, and then adjust the timing from there.
