People often forget Jim had just turned 25 a few months prior. He didn't act much crazier than all the people I grew up around. He drank more obviously but he was a young man. People act like it was outrageous for him to act that way and he should've known better but damn, he was merely a young man exploring life and setting his boundaries.

A couple of my friends didn't make it out their 20s either. One in particular was always pushing boundaries, and was dead at 26 after one particularly reckless night involving drugs and alcohol.

He didn’t set any boundaries. He became a serious alcoholic. He used to be drinking buddies with Alice Cooper and Keith Moon. Alice Cooper quit drinking to save his life. And Ray wrote that he tried to drink with Jim one night but he couldn’t keep up the pace. Jim drank from the morning until night. Ray gave up trying.

This Cleveland show -- and the Toronto festival in '69 -- are the two best Doors shows I've ever heard. (The Roundhouse and Aquarius shows come close) They're simply on fire here and Morrison is obviously enjoying himself and the crowd and vice-versa. Robbie was a prodigy and rather unsung as a '60s guitar avatar. Uncanny how he and Morrison could read each other! Telepathy for sure.
@philo240 Жыл бұрын
After hearing their last two performances in TX & LA, it's amazing how quickly JM declined in under a year whether from the burden of the Miami trial or just plain sick of performing onstage compared to pursuing writing/poetry or a combination of both. As Ray would say after their last incomplete N.O. gig, he witnessed the spirit just leaving Jim's body. And yes, although Ray & Robbie were the nucleus of the band, Jim & Robbie seemed to have the best chemistry onstage.

It's a rare miracle that we hear these materials. The Doors were special with their music, they sang without filters, they sang the way we talk in everyday life with each other, without filters, in May 2022 I was in Paris, I couldn't leave without going to Jimi's grave, as soon as I faced Jimi's grave I was overcome by a very special feeling, I was overcome by emotions, I greeted all my friends.
