My buddy used to work for a mechanic that would call those motors that were all caked up Quaker State motors, I guess that oil was notorious for making sludge and coking up. I think I’d look for a EFI 300 inline 6 from a 90’s truck
@flatbrokegarage9 ай бұрын
Yep, 300 is one of the best motors built in my opinion. I have a 289 that I could have dropped right in. I just am kinda stuck on keeping this old 250 alive. 😆

I would think, if I am understanding everything correctly, the original head was ok but the valves and lifters were a mess, the second head was cracked but had decent valves and lifters? If so, you should have enough decent parts left over to make one good head from both heads one and two for next time? At any rate, you should be good to go with head three! Be careful with those Duraspark electronic ignition boxes. If that old one still works, it might not for long! I ended up with a blown out muffler once due to one of those when it failed (the box failed and caused a backfire that blow out an almost new muffler as it went out). I have been told that you can slightly modify both the GM and Chrysler boxes to replace the Ford Duraspark boxes and both give longer lives than the Ford … but can’t say I have ever tried it myself. Best of luck with the ole Falarino! I was always a fan of that generation of Ranchero!
@flatbrokegarage9 ай бұрын
On the first head it just has soft seats and needs hardened seats put in. Unfortunately 2 of the exhaust seats were pretty far burnt in. Afraid of hitting a water jacket. The 80s heads are way better. Bigger intake, intake valves, hardened seats, and smaller chamber fir a bit more compression. I bought all new valves that only fit the 80s head, now with the Crack I had to get another 80s head to use my new valves. Thanks for watching!

@flatbrokegarage9 ай бұрын
The new pistons are Keith Black flat top Hypereutectic, the late model head has much bigger intake valves. I'm limited on carburetors due to the integrated intake. As far as a header, I know they sell them. Think I want to get some miles under it's belt. The only other upgrade I have planned is disc braks for now. Thanks for watching!

I'm glad the PB Blaster works for you. I saw a study several years ago that showed the best penetrating oil is aa mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone; better than any commercially available . I have used that with decent success too. I love the Falcarino. Such a rare curiosity.

I've used that mix on stuck engines. Seems to work well. I'm really excited about getting the Falcarino back on the road and reliable (to a point) that I can use it as a daily driver.

They make a aftermarket HEI GM style distributor for a Ford engine, basically you don't need the duro spark it's just one 12 volt hot wire that runs to the distributor on the car, some people like them some don't, I'm getting it for a 300 6 in my 78 F 150 sometime this year

Somebody probably added the lash caps because they couldn't get the valves to stay quiet enough for the owner. Some heavy handed goon may have ground the tops of the valves to get the caps to "fit" better. Back to the yard for a replacement head, who whudda thunk that car was sold with a warranty?
