I love the way these guys say, it's factored at 290 hp. But the car runs 10.15 at 129 and 2925lbs, so I'm guessing about 500 to the rear wheels. He's got a zillion dollars in the motor, seriously I would think $30k.

It's got an INDY intake manifold and I'd be willing to bet the heads aren't running stock oem 2.02/1.60 valves.....Probably INDY heads with 2.08/1.74 and heavily ported.....the Carter AFB flows more than 625 cfms....no doubt in my mind the CR is 12:1 or higher.....that motor will dyno near 600hp no doubt in my mind.....owner was sand bagging on the power and build.....been racing AMC cars for 40+ years i have one of those myself, so I know what it takes to run those numbers......beautiful car and thank you for posting this we AMC people don't get a lot of love, but when we do we appreciate it.👊🏼

Cool video! The part about the DeLorean is wrong though. John DeLorean could've worked for AMC but never made it there. He stopped working for GM in 73. That's why he opened his own brand but it failed miserably. The DeLorean is badass though. It's making a come back! Anyways..my favorite cars are AMCs. We grew up with a couple of them. Dad had a 69 Javelin.

These cars were designed, sort of half Ford, and half Chrysler. Some had GM transmissions some had Chrysler transmissions. The 68-70 AMX cars are (IMHO) the coolest.

Once again the misinformation about AMC abounds. They weren’t “ sorta half Ford and half Chrysler”. When AMC used parts from other auto manufacturers or vendor parts like Borg ( T-10 4-speed ) or ‘72 and later when AMC used the 727 automatic and 998 and 999 - they were AMC transmission cases with Chrysler internals. You can’t bolt up an AMC 727 or 900 series to a Mopar. The only instances where AMC used another manufacturer’s engine was to fill a production gap until they developed something in- house. Those instances include licensing VW’s in-line 4 in late Gremlins, Pontiac’s Iron Duke in Spirits and Eagles, and chevy’s 2.8 six in early Cherokees. The Gremlin morphed into the Spirit before an in/ house 4 was developed but by ‘84 AMC had their excellent 2.5 4 and by ‘87 the 258 six became the 4.0 for the Jeep line. Otherwise with the 198,232,258, and 4.0 sixes they were all AMC. V8’s ditto. An AMC 390 is a “mid-block” and bears zero resemblance in outer dimensions ( and only has in common total cubic inches ) or architecture- other than being a V8. Same with the 369, 401, 304, 290, and 343. ALL AMC, all essentially the same block in each family 290, 343, 390 ( low deck ) in the first group, and 304, 360 390, 401 ( all higher deck - the later 390 one year only - 1970, with the 401 bowing in in 1971. If AMC borrowed a transmission it only borrowed the internal design - the case, bellhousing, shifter, torque converter and flexplates were AMC. AMC presaged typical modern manufacturing practice of farming out accessories like starters , carbs, ignition, and alternators.

In 1970, my oldest brother went to see the Funny Car Cavalcade of Stars. I think it was at Great Lakes Dragaway. One of the participants was Dick Bourgeois who drove a 1970 AMC Javelin. My brother picked up a press packet and I still have it. It contains pictures of the cars. The two drivers names that seem the most familiar to me are Mickey Thompson and Kelly Chadwick. The Kelly Chadwick picture says "World's fastest Chevy 7:22(should say 7.22) 209 m.p.h.". I always liked the Javelins better than the AMXs because I think the AMX looks too stubby on the rear end.

Do not confuse the nhra rating with the actual hp of the motor. The nhra rating is divided into factory shipping weight and used to determine the class in stock or super stock.
@mickangio166 ай бұрын
Of course not. It's a rating to put it into a competitive catagory. It is close to it's original factory power, though.
