If theirs ever a question whether or not a mustang is a real Boss, look at the VIN number, in the fifth position their will always be a G.
@TattooedEagle
@TattooedEagle 3 жыл бұрын
Besides the vin, all one has to do is look under the hood. A Boss 302 is a heck of a lot different than a standard 302. But you aren't going to see many Bosses, either 302 or Boss 429, unless you watch Mecum auctions or happen across a miracle garage find. Now, a Boss429... UFDAH!! I was lucky enough to get a ride in a brand new one, when I was stationed at Hunter Army Air Field, in Georgia. Now there was a car with some serious snort, right off the showroom floor. Speaking of Mecum... if you all want to drool a bit, there's a new one coming up first of March ( or in that range ) and some of the cars and trucks I've seen... wow... why couldn't I have won that Billion Dollar Powerball??? ( Yeah, I know... to win, ya gotta play first... right? )

These 1965-1970 Mustangs were beautiful designed cars , They looked nice outside and interior , very sporty great to look at and drive. These new cars today with computers , donut steering wheels , airbags are pure junk. Unfortunately many of these Mustangs were sold to Europe and other countries, making them very hard to find in America and very expensive especially the fastback model are in high demand by European buyers. This is the fault of globalism our devalued dollar and low wages, While European currency was higher value . This is a problem , because the fewer of these cars left in America the cost will keep sky rocketing. And anyone wanting one may have to buy one from Europe in the future with high cost of overseas shipping then US shipping only the super wealthy can buy most of these even now. By selling these cars overseas these Muscle car dealers are shooting themselves in the foot over greed. Because in the future there will not be any left to sell here.

My high school biology teacher had 4 Mustangs over the years. Ordered the 1st ever sold by local Ford dealer, traded up to a '66 GT fastback with 289 hi-po. Traded that on a '69 Mach 1 351 4V. He ordered a '70 Boss 302 as his final Mustang. It was lime green but similar otherwise to your test car. He got the spoiler but not the slats. He ordered the shaker hood, upgraded interior (very similar to Mach 1 except for the seats and steering wheel). Unlike yours, he did not get power steering and it was very difficult to park. 3 years later he got married and traded it on a '73 Ford pickup. I drove the Boss several miles when I was in high school. I still remember it as a very special car. I bought a 2008 Mustang GT new in 2009. It probably has more power than the Boss and definitely more comfortable, better gas mileage, etc. but it lacks a lot of the character of the older car.

Yeah modern performance can't be touched by the vintage stuff, however, there's something very special about the raw and connected feel to these old cars and their styling has never been equaled.

The only car I want more is a Cobra 427 SC. BUT, this is a much more practical car to own. At my age, and with my size and bad knees a Cobra would be virtually impossible for me the get in and out of. Truthfully, practicality and ownership of a car like this are contradictions in terms. But I still want one. OH do I want one. Not many cars of the era that were race ready like the Boss could actually be bought by Joe Sixpack. If you had the skills you could be competitive in this car right off the showroom floor. I think the IROC Z was also in that category. But none other of which I'm aware. With the looming safety and emissions regulations these were the last of a breed. For any fan of Detroit iron this was the holy grail.

This was the best looking Mustang ever made. If Ford had made the 2024 Mustang look as close to this car as possible, they'd sell everyone they could make. That worked for the Challenger in2008, and is still working for the Challenger today.

Consumer Report test drove a 1970 Boss 302 and said it was the worst passenger car they had ever driven because of the engine noise, stiff suspension and strong leg strength needed to depress the clutch pedal . . . well duh. They did add though that it had the shortest stopping distance they had ever encountered in an American production vehicle. I used to drive mine to work on a very curvy mountain road and was very glad it had all the characteristics listed by C.R. One day on a straight stretch of highway I pushed it to 105 mph . . . in second gear!

The problem a lot of people had, with the Boss 302 was the Rev limiter, set at 5500 RPMs, I believe. When you revved the boss higher than that and carried it in a race, the valves tended to break and trash the whole engine. The Intake Valves were HUGE, as compared to a standard 302. And a lot of people disconnected the rev limiiter, and destroyed a lot of boss engines. The Boss 429 was a different story, but I've never had one of them in pieces. Never heard of anyone blowing them up, but I'm sure someone probably managed to do so.

@robertanderson4248
@robertanderson4248 5 жыл бұрын
@@fanghicheckThe shift point on a "pure stock" 1970 Boss 302 was around 6100 rpm. The rev limiter (little under hood box on the driver side fender) was set at 6150 rpm. Unlimited, the engine quit making good horsepower to about 7200 rpm. With long tube headers and carb rejetting, I'd guess they put out about 370-375 hp. The solid lifter cam was relatively mild. If you wanted to throw another 2 to 3K into mods from Ford Motorsports and Shelby American, 460 horsepower was easily obtainable.

@thelaborpeasant

The 70 Boss stripes aren't matte or gloss, theyre reflective stripes. Idk about the center stripe though, I imagine they could've used a basic black stripe for that
@briancabral9
@briancabral9 8 жыл бұрын
Evan B They are flat matte black..I had a 70 Boss 302. The reflective striping was on the 69 Mach 1's. You are incorrect.
@briancabral9
@briancabral9 8 жыл бұрын
Evan B Oh one last thing. The Boss 302 striping ran down the hood into the front fender then down the side. They were not reflective, they were all flat matte black...all striping...you are confused with the 1969 Mach 1 side and rear tail striping that was reflective. Only 1969 Mach 1 had the reflective also. The 1970 Mach 1 lost all side striping and had hood striping opposed to the 1969 having the entire hood in the black matte paint. Do your homework before saying things.
@briancabral9
@briancabral9 8 жыл бұрын
Evan B Also, the shakers were all matte black on all Boss 302's and Mach 1's. None were ever gloss black. Even the non shaker Mach 1's that had the hood mountsd scoop were all matte black.
