On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-19-21.
We’re looking at a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS in Forest Green Paint. The car features a 396 CI V8 engine, with a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Mike Steitz. Mike’s had this car since 2000. Mike shares he’s always been a Z/28 Fan, however started looking for a 396 SS and found the car relatively quickly, however there was a 7 year restoration. This car looks showroom new.
To see details on the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, go to www.MCACN.com
ENJOY!

So refreshing to see a Camaro other than a 69 Z/28. Beautiful. Hats off to the owner for persisting in the restoration. Great car Lou.

That's a beautiful new 51 year old car 396/375hp. 4 speed M22, Makes this a real winner. In 1970 the 454 LS6 was in the Camaro brochure but never made into production for the Camaro. Mike is correct this is the top HP &TQ for the Camaro in 1970. Although the 1970 Camaro Z28 was the first year the Camaro got the LT 1 from the Corvette 350ci. 360hp 380tq. and with the small block being lighter they would have been close in performance. Thanks Lou for showing us this beauty...:)

Lou I saw the notification for one of dream cars ! I asked actually begged my Dad to buy me a used Camaro but he didn’t trust in one ! I started diving in 74 so I inherited his 69 LTD two door with a 390 /4v I loved it ! Man this car is clean ! Love watching these cars ! Fun fact original us of SuperSport on Chevrolet Impala was for bucket seats ! I love that 396 very torquey ! I love the platform it gave us the 454 ci LS6 that I would later obtain ! Like I say Lou I dream in cars ! Thanks for the share ! However do you find these gems !

Another great video Lou. Love the color combo. My Uncle had a Tuxedo Black one with white stripes, his only had the base 325 horse 396 in it if I'm remembering correctly. I was only about 9 years old when he wrecked it. He took a curve a little too fast and went off the road wrapped it around a tree. He survived but the car was totalled.

Bill Mitchell was inspired by the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta when it came time for the 1970 redesign of both Camaro and Firebird. A design that survived for 11 years, including a couple gas crisis, a crippling GM strike, the fade out of american pony cars. From high performance solid lifter rat motors, to catalytic converted single exhaust 305's. Those Corvette inspired, round tail lights set in a kamm rear end sets this car off as the real deal. A beauty!

Hi, Lou! The 1970 Camaro (and Pontiac Firebird) was introduced late, on February 26, 1970, apparently to give time to clear out unsold '69s. When it finally arrived, the inaugural ad read, "We've never announced a car at this time before. But then nobody's ever announced a car like this before." Indeed, the second-gen body was good enough to linger twelve model years! I'm sure Mike agreed, and his car looks amazing! Thanks to both of you for putting this fine specimen on exhibit!

I bought my 70 RS SS 396 in August 1977 when I was a senior in High school. Mine was white with a black and white hounds tooth interior. Mine was the first 350 hp version with the turbo 400 transmission. It was also equipped with a/c and a tilt steering column. I was the third owner. The original owner bought the car as an unsold car in 1971. Originally it was ordered by a customer who didn’t take it because of the price $4700. A GM executive drove it as a demonstrater for a few months. I sold the car in 1987

My first car was a 3 year old 1970 Camaro SS 396-375. 4 speed in the same color of forest green. GM had a strike in late 1969, so the launch of GM vehicles was in the spring of 1970. Only 600 of the L78 equipped Camaros were produced for the 1970 model year.

She is super clean with her sexy lines and I love the green color and wood grain trim inside. That engine restoration is epic and mouth watering. She's a far cry from the pretty beat up maroon '84 Camaro that my buddy Ralphy's older brother had and that I would very often be in the backseat of at 14 or 15 with many girls (Camaro kicks for the chicks!) with those said stocking feet twitching airborne out the window, but that Camaro mystique just calls to me, Lou. Beautiful L-78 Camaro. I also owned one from1988 to 2001. It was numbers matching. It was Classic copper with black vinyl top (which I was not too happy about)0 It had almost all of the original equipment, except it had Headers on it. His Camaro would have looked even nicer with the short rear spoiler. Mine had the rea spoiler. It had Muncie 4 speed close ratio trans, and 12 bolt Posi with the optional 4:10 rear gear. I wish mine was in the shape of his.

I've always liked the 2nd gen Camaro body style. This one looks really nice in green. This car design is very sleek and being an SS I am surprised that it doesn't have a rear deck spoiler. Cool car.

The Z-28 came with the LT1 350 engine only. The SS came with a 350 or 396.

I'm surprised it was not mentioned here...that engine was not a 396. It is a 402. And you should also know but might not apparently...that that little factoid makes that car even more rare. Because this typo only occurred to this car. If numbers for this car match for the 4speed Muncie aluminum transmission and the 402 that is disguised and even wrapped as a 396 it is exceptionally rare. Furthermore the 375 hp rating was WAY underrated. That engine produced over 450 hp and about 500 pound feet of torque. I'm an old mechanic from this era...I drove and worked on this rare pony when it was only a few years old. You don't know what you got if you didn't know what I said about the 402. One of the rarest Camaros of all. And in my opinion it is.
