In the late 90s I had a 1973 240Z for about 3 years before this girl in a 67 Mustang plowed into it and totaled it. I had Low Profile TA Radials on the front and big 60 Series Donuts on the back and my Z loved it!! It handled like a budget Ferrari!! I'm a pretty social guy so I also loved that everywhere I would go people would want to talk about the car.. Would love to own another one..

Digging deep into memory here. I remember these things fairly well. My step dad and his brother was into 2 seaters. They never owned one of these, but they knew of them. As they would put it, "The 260Z is the one you want because it will beat a 240 or a 280 Z car." I personally know nothing about the Z cars, but I believed them because they both knew 2 seat sports cars and had lots. Growing up I raced (street racing) a lot of cars, but I never was given the opportunity to test a Z car at a stop light.

I have inherited my mom’s 260Z, so I am happy your stepdad & brother put the 260 at the pinnacle, but I am curious what made them come to that conclusion.
@joncouncil4454
@joncouncil4454 2 жыл бұрын
@@jayrogers8255 The 260 arguably is the sweet spot in performance evolution. The Goldilocks of the bunch. The body of a 260Z is little different from the 240.before it, but with the larger engine, you get extra horsepower (15) and torque in the mid 150's. This is only applicable for the U.S. cars for 260's made from halfway in the 1974 model year until the 280Z took over. In '75, the engine was increased yet again to 2.8L, which gave birth to the 280z. However, by this time weight and size was creeping in on the Z's body, so even with 177hp, it could be argued it's impact was being negated by the car's size. Personally I think the early 280Z could be the best (two seater only), with a 260Z a close second,. Until the reskinned 280Z of the late 70's (1978-1983) came around. By that time, it was clear the magic was gone. Emissions cut the power back down below 240Z levels, but weight and size were way up. Hence why a turbo was added, but still, getting the turbo car back up to earlier 280z power levels did little when the car was more luxury touring than straight sports car.
@jayrogers8255
@jayrogers8255 2 жыл бұрын
@@joncouncil4454I have read that the 260Z’s horsepower rating was “down” versus the 240Z, but the thing is that partway during the 240Z’s run, the way HP was calculated changed, so the 260Z is actually “up” on HP compared to the 1973 240Z. I agree about the 280ZX being a pig. The aesthetics of the S30 are the most beautiful of the whole run, I think.

8s 0-60 back in the early 80's was pretty fast, 150bhp at 2,400 pounds is a solid car. It's still beautiful today... alas I was only a teenager and could never dream of owning one back then. This and the RX7 were every high school kids dream.... great video.

my 1st car was a 72 240z with 150,000mi on it and a 4spd stick..it was a car from the east coast and Full of rust and bondo...I was new to Z;s and didnt know just how bad they rotted...After buying it for 800 dollars and having a very insecure feeling ride home, I discovered the seats were attached to the back of a washing machine back panel ,the sheet metal which was screwed to the floors had the seats bolted to it! when I took out that metal, i literally had 2 sunroof sized holes in driver and passenger wells! plus,the usual rot behind the front wheel s when you look in that cavity...hilarious! I was dirt poor and couldnt afford to have the body properly painetd, it was orange but had grey and black all over the place.. so i got a can of brush paint and slopped it all over the thing and made it white.. it was just the funniest thing ever, im sure people laughed as they got closer and said WTF? that dude brush pained his Z! later down the line , a friend cut out all the rust and welded in new sheet metal which was a Major project...It Was easy to work on and had all the space in the world under the hood,unlike todays cars..it made nice sounds and had good pull and I used to bliss out revving it to redline thru the gears..I was a kid, it was my 1st car and it didnt take much ..i appreciated what I had and had a blast in it...cool memories! PS: im 60 now
