Being a Mopar guy, I've gotta say that the 1970 Challenger T/A and AAR Cuda are definitely my favorite small block cars of that era. Also loved the 340 Duster and Demon/Dart Sport. I had a 73 340/4 speed Duster. The last real muscle cars built by Chrysler of that era in my opinion

Hi Jeremy Thompson, Glad to read this one is a favorite for you :-) Lou

Challenger t/a and aar cuda were the only cars made back then and maybe to this day that cam from the factory with two different sized tires with the same 15 inch wheels (wider in the back obviously)

Merry Christmas Lou. Another great MoPar brings back memories of the early days of my automotive parts and service profession. Those 340 six pack cars were very quick and surprised more than a few big block cars!
@soxfunny986 жыл бұрын
Grant, More than a few big blocks. Stoplight to stoplight , very few cars can take this car in back in the day.
@jdgimpa6 жыл бұрын
@@soxfunny98 in 1970 I worked at a Chrysler Plymouth dealer. We had a AAR Cuda and a 440 six pack Cuda, same gear ratio, same size rear tires both automatics. You are right in a street race the AAR would take the 440 every time. In drive that 340 would shift at 6500 RPM the 440 shifted at 5500 so while the 440 was already in second gear the 340 would still be in first. Not only that the AAR would hook up and go while the 440 was spinning the tires. If you could get the 440 to hook up you had to baby it coming off the line loosing more time.
@soxfunny986 жыл бұрын
@@jdgimpa It was cool to watch wasnt it?? My buddy had a plumb crazy T/A and he would frustrate 396 chevelles , 400 GTO, s , Ford big blocks etc. They would accuse him of everything from nitrous to big builds. He would never let any of them look until one night he raced every BB that would run him. He went 7-1( lost to a Hemi Cuda in a 2 block race). Anyhow he decided it was time to show them all. Man i swear these guys wanted to junk their big blocks. It was hilarious

WOW! Merry Christmas Lou! That was a Great Surprise this Christmas Morning. I didn’t appreciate these cars enough when I seen them as a 8 year old. I had only seen Mustangs and Camaros by the time I seen a Cuda or Challenger they were in tough shape and didn’t really turn me on that much. But If I could turn back time, this would of been right up there on my list of Favorites!

Chrysler underrated the 340 six pack @ 290 hp at 5000rpm but modern day exact rebuilds on a dyno will put out 350 hp at 6000 rpm. Even with the 275 hp 4bbl 340s actually made 320 hp. Guys put headers and a couple other things on these cars and made (stock) hemi power very easy. Note that chrysler underrated the 340s purposely in order to not disturb the sales of 383 big block powered cars. Because essentially 340s made around the same power & were better on fuel. It's too bad the 340 only had a short 7 year run. 68-73 Was succeeded by the 360 which had a smaller bore and larger stroke. 360 (4.000) & (3.58) 340( 4.030) & (3.31) The 340 had way better induction also with very good heads larger valves and better port configuration. T/a & aar had adjustable rocker arms with solid lifters. Total bad ASS

plain dash, clock with tach delete. no air or eight track. neat. eight hundred equipped with that pistol grip four speed. THIS is the car that every enthusiast afterwards, runs out to get a pistol grip style shifter for their manual muscle car. the gentleman with the sixty-eight GTO, whose hurst shifter with the cue ball with shift instructions on it, "a rare commodity," when sent away for complete restoration: so popular are these pistol grips (guessing they still make 'em) i wonder how much less this weighs with that marvelous hood. magnificent post for christmas. hey buddy, where's the fender tag with all the build code numbers for this here car? 675 original miles on a new car, start with a good one..
@bobsilver39836 жыл бұрын
The fender tag is at his home in a safe place. I would personally have it on the car.
@scottbrady74996 жыл бұрын
@@bobsilver3983 i see what You're saying: the tag, if in fact it shows that this 675 odometer reading mobile was ALWAYS a firbreglas hooded demon, was not installed at the completion of the restoration. someone would display it with great pride, on an all numbers matching beast. just a minor oversight, i guess.. yet the attention to detail, otherwise, is unmistakable. he's got his own reasons, i would imagine. what I was observing, was how Lou has set guidelines on how he shows cars on his channel: nash metro OR 69 chevelle. it wasn't where it was expected. ..my dog ate my homework. it's safe at home

This are quite a few incorrect aspects to this car as well as the bypass hose. While it is a nice car, there is a lot that is not accurate to how they came off the assembly line. If the car is concours judged properly, it will take a lot of points deductions. The owner can then decide if he wants to correct the deficiencies.
