There is not a day that goes by that I regret selling my 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. It was a light forest green with a dark green vinyl roof. It also had the 225ci slant six with an automatic. I loved the split bench seat, the sweeping speedometer, and factory air conditioning. Had the car for 5 years... Damn!

A swinger with s slant 6 I think that was just the swinger stripes and hood swinger came standard 340 3 speed you could actually get a hemi in them super rare anyone dropping a grand for a hemi would get a super bee or charger or road runner GTX the scat pack club back then had all kinds of kits for the cars

@@duwanemcknight8842 Sorry to correct you but you're wrong. The 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger was available with the 198ci or 225ci Slant 6, the 318ci V8 or the 340ci V8 engine. A big block engine (383. 440, or the 426 Hemi) was not available from the factory in 1970. Swinger is the name of an upgrade package over the base model.

I could easily retire on the value of just a few of the cars I passed on. But, with no garage and the way I drove, people like me who did buy them are the reason that they are so rare today.

My friend and I would tow darts, Sattelites, coronets, and any old ford we could find to his moms field... We were 17/18 year olds in high school with grand dreams of fixing them up. We even had a '68 olds Toronado with a 455 cid engine and not a scratch on it. People would just give them to us in the late '80's happy to get rid of them! We had big block engines laying around the garage everywhere. Then wives and kids came along and we gave them away mostly to guys who wanted them for parts. We never dreamed what they would be worth now! I sold my '64 1/2 Barracuda for $500.00!!!... Talk about "if only"...😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

It wasn't that easy - once gas prices crept up from 29 cts/gal to 78 cents, these cars were in big demand. They only cost a few hundred, but if you had a clean low mileage used one, you had to get in line to find one. I know - I spent most of the 70s trying to find one, and did a couple of times until I was in the market for used Volares, then used K-cars. Had me a few of those too. It took me to '96 to cave and go to a new Camry. But I saved a bunch of money over those years.

Had a 71 Dart Custom sedan in a bronze copper color, that someone loaded up originally. Factory 318 auto, a/c, tinted glass, p/s, power discs, deluxe interior with carpeting, dual outside rear view mirrors ( left was inside remote) blk vinyl roof, AM radio, and carpeted trunk floor, which I found out was a dealer option, that went over the std cardboard floor covering. It fit well, and I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't the factory piece. Sold the car in 2002 because it was pretty rusty, but the powertrain was still really good. 3 cranks on a dead cold start at -20* f and it was up and running. In fact, during the Chicago blizzard of 99, I jumped 7 cars with dead batteries. When I sold it, everything still worked, including that R12 crazy cold a/c. Miss that lil guy!

David Weber, this video seems to be hokey but they weren't at the time consumer advertisements for television like the commercials showing the cars in motion these were training slideshow advertising for dealership sales personal and mechanics preparing them for the new years models the beep or tone you hear is a prompt for the presenter to advance the projector slide to keep it in syncronization with the separate audio recorded presentation. The Auto Manufacturing Companies would send marketing personnel to authorized dealerships with these sales training presentations along with brochures and posters of the models for the showroom to entice customers.

For all the high-tech humor, including smart young women and male and female narrators describing colorful pictures, this clever presentation is still directed toward the dealer. Like so many of these fancy presentations the idea was to help the dealer sell and service the product the motor company was putting out. The dealer will be selling the 1970 Dodge Dart. More money was made on selling the car than servicing it though service was also viewed as a profit opportunity. The motor company relied on the dealer to sell and service the cars. The motor company would collect extra money on the cars and parts and the dealer would mark them up further, adding still more money to the bill, particularly for the labor performed by the mechanics. The customer would sometimes be angry with the inflated prices for all of this. When problems developed for the parts and service the customer would sometimes become even angrier. This is the dirty little secret of the automobile enterprise in America. The Dart was a compact car which was actually fairly dependable however.

The 1977 Aspen R/T, 360 4 bbl 4 speed, black with orange/red stripes flared wheel openings, spoilers and louvered rear quarter windows! Back in 1979-'80, I had a 1970 GTX with a 383 Road Runner engine in it and this one kid had that 1977 Aspen R/T with 50's on the back and side exiting exhaust, Crager SS all around and roll bars! Very quick and sharp, until he totaled it in a race against a 1974 Pontiac GTO, when the GTO snapped a tie rod end and swerved into him, pushing him off the road into the trees, he ended up upside down in the wooded area, and the GTO wound up on its side against a tree! They were only cut and bruised up! I used to love that car!

Ahh, the good old days. When a synchronized three speed transmission, and the option of power assisted breaks were something to brag about. At least there was a choice of colors, both inside and out. Not black, white, grey (It's not silver!), and if you pay for the top of the line model, red. It may have been a dealer installed option, but I believe they also offered 15" steel mags on some models.

The lack of color choices in today's cars is one of the great shames of automotive marketing. Just speaks to the number of short term leases and resales vs. ownership of new cars, thus the caution with the colors.
