I still don't believe it; I was able to see the 1970 Ferrari 512 S Pininfarina Modulo in action at the Cremona circuit during a day of testing. The car, born initially as Concept-Car, was purchased by the American collector and manufacturer James Glickenhaus in 2014. Through the collaboration with the Turin Automobile Manufacturing, was decided to make it working (before it wasn't) and install the mechanical part of the Ferrari 512 S from 1970. The V12 engine is, therefore, the 261C type, a 5-litre and 550hp fitted in the Ferrari racing cars which run the world Sports Prototypes championship, mounted longitudinally in the central/rear part of the vehicle. Designed by Paolo Martin, at the time in force at Pininfarina, Modulo marked the design of the cars forever in the seventies. High from the ground only 93 centimetres and more than two meters wide, this "UFO" on wheels, still astounds today (let alone 50 years ago) has no doors. Driver and passenger can come inside the car by sliding forward a single piece which includes the roof and front windshield. The ingenious system has allowed to obtain a low line design and make it unique.
I have to thank my friend and KZbinr 19Bozzy92 ( / 19bozzy92 ) with whom I collaborated to realize this video. Enjoy! 😉
Buona visione! 😉

Ferrari seriously needs to come out with an updated version of this car while following the original design concept faithfully. Drivability would be so much better with todays technology, as well as having far more horsepower, maybe even an ultra high power electric drivetrain. Led lighting would look so great on it as well. Very cyberpunk, carwars, futuristic. The world needs a new Modulo in it!

Electric would be key, but for a different reason. I suspect the reason he keeps opening it up during the drive is that between the engine and the windshield, he's baking like a potato in there. I doubt they bothered with air conditioning for a concept car. I think newer glass would help here, and maybe even go all out and take advantage of the IR reflectivity of gold dust to go full Apollo moonsuit on the idea.

Saw this in the pages of Automobile Quarterly as a kid and for me it is still one of the greatest concept cars. If it were me I'd sell off the V12 to go in a car it belonged in. Make it electric and add an external sound system so it would sound like the Batmobile from the original TV show. Of course have marquee lights going around the parting line.

I agree that it is one of the most beautiful and futuristic concept cars ever. Even now, 50 years later it is stunning to see. I personally don't despise the fact that there is a Ferrari racing car engine from those years.

There are interesting aerodynamics in this design. The bottom curves as much as the top. The profile of most cars the bottom is flat with a curved top like aircraft wings, creating lift. Ground effect might/might not like this design at high speeds. Thanks for showing it.

@@gianlucar.4428 No aspetta. Così l'aveva concepita Paolo Martin che all'epoca lavorava in Pininfarina.

In the early 70s I was given a coffee table book, "World of Cars." This monster was featured. I recall it being baby blue. Anyway, I thought of that car out of the blue this evening. Hey, I could Google it! And lola, here it is moving for the first time in my mind. I must say, though, that rumbling Ferrari sound really did not seem appropriate to this design. It seems to scream for electric.

I'm no expert, but from the look of the front end, it looks like this car would have very bad 'front end lift' at anything even approaching 'high speed'. I know it's only a prototype but I wonder if Ferrari even wind tunnel tested the aerodynamics?

No, non credo proprio.

You are in the wrong way. The engine is the best Glickenhaus could put respecting the age of the car. He decided to make it working (before it wasn't) and install the mechanical part of the Ferrari 512 S from 1970. The V12 engine is, therefore, the 261C type, a 5-litre and 550hp fitted in the Ferrari racing cars which run the world Sports Prototypes championship. Being a race car engine, it must run at a higher rpm to function smoothly. The Modulo is undoubtedly a too-expensive car to make it run as the engine would deserve, and I understand the decision to go slowly. It still remains a one-off show car with 50 years of age. Already the fact of seeing it and feeling it moving and not closed inside some museum is something to be appreciated and in itself extraordinary.
