Back in my high school days , we road around in my friends 1070 yellow cobra Torino . In the mid 70’s , I swear the cobra Torino with its 429 CJ was the quickest car I’ve ever been in . One thing I noticed about the cobra Torino ,is the front end lifts up quite high during launch. We’d race a Camaro , and he’d just be sitting there spinning out losing traction , and we’d be half way to the next light because of how well it hooks up . How I miss the old days lol

@paradoxdesigns You can bet that it runs out real strong. Those 429 Cobra Jets were rated at 370 HP, and that was underrating them by quite a bit.

Beautiful car! Impressive on every level! I've always been a Ford fan. Two of my boyfriends had Torinos - one had a 1969 Torino, and the other had a brand new 1972 Gran Torino Sport. His father owned a dealership, and Jim always drove the nicest ones. The 1972 he bought outright and kept. My first car was a 1969 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 390 in it. I bought it for a pittance from my mother who wanted a smaller car, and shared it with my boyfriend/fiancé and then it became OUR car when we married. Then, he bought me a 1971 Ford Torino GT SportsRoof for my 21st birthday in 1978 though! I loved the lines from the minute I saw her, and the power from the 351-C 4V attached to a C6 Console shift automatic was more than adequate! It was apparently a rare color though, because I have rarely seen another burgundy one like it. It had hi-back buckets of course and the whole interior was black. It was hotter than Hades hinges in the summer with no AC! I had to open it up and let the heat out for a few minutes before I could get in and sit on the vinyl seats. I learned quickly to keep the seats and the steering wheel covered up so they could be touched, and then the fold-up windshield "heat shields" hit the market, and saved the day! I had it for a long time before I sold it to a friend who restores Torinos, and mine had become a money pit. The under body and suspension was notorious for rusting away if it was driven in Midwestern states where they used lots of salt on the roads to de-ice them. It was a commonly known flaw in design to those of us with older Torinos. Anyway, mine became an "organ donor" to a couple of Torinos that were under restoration. I wouldn't have done it if I'd had the money to fix her, but I didn't. And this was in 1998, so I'd already had her for 20 years. She had taken us on many trips, before and after the two to the hospital to have our babies; carried those babies in their car seats ALWAYS until they were outgrown, to every home we lived in, in several cities, and to our first house we bought in 1990. She was a good, dependable friend and I hated to see her go. I couldn't even be here when they came to get her on a trailer. And many tears were shed in her memory. She was the first car to whom I had grown truly attached, and no others have really taken her place since then. Now I love my 2000 Sable LS Premium, and she's my favorite shade of blue. But she will never take the place of my first real car of my very own.
