Why on earth would you put a Windsor in that car? It came out with the Cleveland which is a much more powerful and bulletproof engine. I've had two Cleveland's and four Windsors. Windsors are famous for eating camshaft bearings and losing oil pressure. 1970 Two bbl Cleveland's converted to 4bbl with performance point style ignition and hooker headers with 18" glass pack dual exhausts run straight out the back dynos factory at 365 hp at the wheels and buttloads of torque thanks to the high compression. Love the car, just hate the choice of engines. My Cougar was a 1970 as well.

The Marti Report has the car born with a 351-V8 Windsor motor. It’s the original motor.

In '70 all m codes are 351C 4V. However H codes, fifth digit of VIN, are mix of 351W, and Cleveland's, 2bbl. By '71, no W any more. All 351C. 2-4 bbl . Per Marti .

So yes, in '70, there were a few early 351W 2bbls only. H codes. When it switched to Cleveland engines, it was still H codes. 351C 2bbl. Hope that helps.

Actually the Windsor was first and was offered and actually was a better performing engine and came with a 4bbl carb, Dana 9 inch independent or possy track rear ends. The only real difference are the heads. LOL, I basically did what you did to a 66 Fastback Mustang with a 289 balanced, and blued printed motor and was producing that could of HP on the dyno. Using all TRW parts, a 750 Holly dbl pmp Carb, and 4 speed trans geared perfect in a Dana 9 inch rear end. I had so much compression I was busting valve springs, so I had to double them up ( spring inside a spring ). Won many of races with the car. Always dependable too ! Sure do miss it some times !
