1970 Porsche 911T Sportomatic Transmission Parking Pawl Fix

This is describing the fix for a broken parking pawl on a 1970 Porsche 911T Sportomatic Transmission where the parking pawl went into park as the car was moving in reverse slowly and it sheared off the tab. Total engine removal is required to access the Transmission. The Transmission is actually a 1974 925 Tramsmission as the original 1970 3 speed was replaced in 1978 with a 1974 transmission because the gears were trashed by the original owner. Too far gone to save.

Just a quick note for you: the original 905/20 Sportomatic that would have been in a 1970 911T is a four-speed as well. My 1970 911T has its original 905/20 still in place. You're doing a great service for those couple dozen of us who are keeping Sportomatics on the road. Thanks and keep it up!

Thanks so much. My uncle tells me the original in this car was a 3 speed but I have heard the 4 speed was available too. The old one was trashed so either way he started over. The throw out bearing was bigger and better in the 74 4speed tranny so that was a big improvement. I’m an originalist if I can be or where I can be. Anyhow thanks for the note. Just thought I would start sharing my info online. I’m no certified mechanic but the last 3 places I took the Porsche to have it looked at the shop replied that they could not work on a sportomatic and that I probably knew more about it than they did. So I just dug in and did it myself with my uncles phone call guidance! Greasy knuckles!!
