Porsche were notorious for going right up to the limit, and sometimes over, of the lightness/strength ratio. I wouldn’t have wanted to have had a big accident in one of these. I think they’d fold up like a cheap suitcase.

Show us a licensed road car that can reach 242 mph on the Mussanne straight each lap and still survive after 2000 miles. Not even the Veyron could do it. The Veyron would lose the race on fuel consumption alone anyway. The 917 was so good that 10 years after first production it still lead a race at Brands hatch against cars 10 years newer in design.

The 917 did 0 - 60 in 2.7 seconds, maybe a few electric cars could beat that but they run out of steam at around 150 - the Porsche is just getting going then!
