I used to make this when my children were little but I didn't use the cream, just the little marshmallows. I had forgotten about it until it popped up in my suggestions. Thank you so much. It looks wonderful and your instructions are perfect. You're making me nostalgic and miss my grown children, who have moved away many years now and my parents who are deceased. I wonder how many other recipes I've forgotten. I better scroll through your video list. I have just discovered your channel. Thank you and God bless.

Wow, I just had a walk down memory lane! The first time I saw/ate this was when we were living in Conway, SC. It had a cake base, and coconut and nuts were added to the cake; then a large jar of marshmallow creme; then the chocolate frosting. My teeth ached, but my tummy and sweet tooth were very happy! This is almost sinfully good. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Hi Phyllis. I just want to thank you for sharing this recipe. My Grandmother adopted and raised me. She was a phenomenal cook and her recipe books were lost during a relatives move. My grandmother passed away in 2018 and I miss her so much. I always tell my husband about my Grams Mississippi Mud pie and he has no clue what I'm talking about! I have googled for the recipe and all of these Pie like recipes come up and I KNOW exactly what the desert looks and tastes like. It's been probably 18 years since I have had it, but I loved it and remember it like it was yesterday. Finding your recipe was heaven sent. As I watched you, I felt like I had a glimpse of my Beloved Gram. I'm going to make this recipe to honor her (and I'm going to EAT it!) Thank you so much for sharing this gift. A true blessing in my life ❤️

Angelpayne6632 : Sorry your grandmother’s recipe books were lost. So were my mother’s. I’ve tried to replicate some using her old Watkin’s Cookbook and she also had a Westinghouse Cookbook which was signed by Betty Furness who was a lovely actress and did commercials on tv in the 50’s.

This was one of the recipes we would make in my home economics class in back when I was in high school. We would make it for every bake sale. My teacher used one of the original recipes (just like this but with coconut in the batter). The recipe instructed to always put the frosting one while the cake was warm. We tried it both ways.. when when you put it on a warm cake the marshmallow slightly mixes with the frosting and gives it a fudge like texture. If you wait until the marshmallow chills.. it's not as good, the frosting ends up being more like a glaze.

My husband and I limit our sugar intake to one dessert a month. I made this the other day for our splurge-day. Turned out fantastic. My husband said it was the very best "Mississippi Mud ANYTHING" he'd ever had. Only thing I did different was leave out the pecans because my husband doesn't like them. We ate our pieces, and my husband took the rest to work and shared. He said it was gone minutes. I'm not always keen on recipes with marshmallows, but this was amazing (and a lot of fun to make). Thanks so much for sharing!

Ms. Phyllis, I have the same recipe as yours & it is one of my favorite desserts ever 😊💝! My brother in law was from Mississippi but he had lived in Florida for years. He had a couple of older sister's that came down from Mississippi in 1982 & we had a family get together. They had made this & gave me the recipe but they called it "Mississippi Mud Cake". I take the round end of a wooden or plastic spoons & I poke holes in my cake before adding the marshmallow cream & I actually put the pecans in my chocolate frosting, but I think I'm going to do it your way the next I make it 😊. I love pecans in my brownies so your version makes more sense to me & I also like to see some of the marshmallow mixed in the chocolate frosting exactly like you did yours 😊. Thank You so much sweet lady for sharing this Awesome Tutorial & God Bless 😊💝🙏✝!

I found that if I greased my spatula lightly, it kept the marshmallow cream from sticking to the spatula when spreading. Makes cleanup easier also. If you really hate the stickiness and want to make it easy as possible, you can spread it as much as possible with one spatula and finish it off with a second greased spatula. We usually ate it when it was warm because my husband ask every few minutes, " Is it ready yet?" We ate a couple of Lemon Meringue Pies that were, shall I say, a little soft. We had many a good laugh over his impatients with deserts needing to cool. Thanks for your receipe......
