For the first time, long-time "What's My Line?" panelist Bennett Cerf appears as a guest panelist on "To Tell The Truth." This is the second season of "To Tell The Truth's" syndicated run with Garry Moore as host (following the earlier 12 year run on CBS with Bud Collyer). Of the classic "What's My Line?" panelists, Dorothy Kilgallen had appeared once on "To Tell The Truth" in 1962 and Bennett did this full week of shows for the syndicated version, while Arlene Francis never crossed over once.
-The quality of this recording, which is a GSN rerun from its early years in 1995 is low because I obtained it as a multi-generational VHS copy. Three more episodes from this same week with Bennett on the panel will be uploaded in the future and they are superior quality shows I taped originally.
-Subjects on this show include identifying a baton twirling majorette and in Game 2 a POW expert.

I love Bennett Cerf and loved him in Whats.my Line. Great to see him in this though these later TTTT are inferior to the earlier version when Bud Colyier hosted.

In 1968, Bud Collyer suffered a very bad heart attack. A young Bert Convy replaced him as host of “To Tell The Truth”, but the show’s ratings tumbled without Collyer, and the show was cancelled by CBS by the end of the Summer. Bud Collyer recovered enough to make an appearance as a “Mystery Guest” on the syndicated version of “What’s My Line?” a short time after “To Tell The Truth” was canceled. Arlene Francis teared up once she found out he was the “Mystery Guest”. It turned out to be Bud Collyer’s final television appearance before his death in 1969.

Wow!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I didn’t know Bennett Cerf ever appeared on the syndicated TTTT. Nice mention of NBC Monitor too. Great radio program.

@@kristabrewer9363 He was never on the original Collyer version (Dorothy Kilgallen was once in 1962). He just did the five shows from this one taping session in 1970.

That is clearly West 53rd Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue at the start. The fire escapes of the Broadway Theater looks as it has forever outside the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Yes, he left both this show and "What's My Line?" to announce for the Goodson-Todman shows which moved out to California. Two of the shows were returning to television: "The Price is Right" and "I've Got A Secret". One would return about 10 months after those two shows returned. Can you guess which one?

I never knew Bennett was on ANY episode of To Tell the Truth (of course I'm only up to 1957). And I would never have recognized Kitty Carlisle either

It doesn't take much to lose your grip in show biz. In 1962 Garry Moore was the highest paid person on television (making 2 million that year from his variety show and "I've Got A Secret") He took a couple of years off, tried a come back variety show in 1966 (13 weeks and cancelled) and was sent off to Gameshowland. He was always entertaining in any venue, but it was rather a comedown for this once great star.

Garry’s Show was forced off the air by CBS programmers, he was hurt by this move and left CBS. He tried a return to his variety show on Sunday Nights but was knocked off by the ratings juggernaut of Bonanza.

Garry Moore was getting too handsy with that girl in the beginning. She didn't seem to enjoy it either, even trying to shoo him away.

I don't mean to be grumpy but I liked Bud Colyer so much better as the host of TTTT. In my opinion, Garry hogs way too much air time.
