This car has been sold! Video will be left up for posterity, and because it's awesome.
eBay auction: www.ebay.com/itm/181246173812
This listing is for my beloved 1970 429 CJ, Ford Torino Cobra with a factory 4-speed transmission. This car is unusual in that it came with manual drum brakes and manual steering. A friend of mine sold me this car just before he passed away several years ago. Max bought the car in the early 80's from the original owner (see documentation) so that makes me the third registered owner. The 429 CJ motor and transmission were completely rebuilt by Alderidge Motor Sports in Portland, OR. As the video attests to and the documentation shows, a top notch job was ordered and it runs out VERY strong. The drive-train has about 30,000 miles on it since the extensive rebuild and would need very little to be rated a 10. It does not have its numbers-matching block anymore, and the carburetor is an aftermarket Holley, incorrect numbered distributor and other minor details need attention or are not correct (see video). It has a VERY solid Western body and some very nice interior parts. Please watch the video for specifics as I go into much further detail there. Feel free to call me at 503-463-1130 if you need further information. I feel this car is worth about $25,000.00, but my reserve is much less than that. We can help with shipping worldwide as I have done it many times over the last 25 years. I will consider trades for 67-73 parts or parts cars. Thank you! Don Rush 503-463-1130

I had the same car but yellow and I got it to run 11.70 @116mph. People don't realize that these were quite fast for being such a big car and that they actually put out around 425-450ish HP stock, Ford underated them at 370/375hp for insurance reasons. Really miss that car!

Well, peoples;I had a 68 Torino GT 390 HiPO cruising through Shoneys Big Boy one nite, say 1972 so I challenged a guy in one of these bright yellow and we went out on 29S. by-pass and from a roll ,I was ahead in 1st.and 2nd. gear ,when we shifted into 3rd,he passed me like I was sitting still!Once these big ports get to flowing on the 429 they really get arockin!I could race all nite on $2 of 100 octane race anybody, anywhere, anytime! These hippies were up in the trees at Villa Maria Academy tripping on acid and one of them recounted to me later how cool it was to see and hear me jetting up Rivermont Ave.at probally clode to 100m.p.h. in the main residential area where all the rich folks lived.Man,sex ,drugs and rock-and-roll!And fast muscle cars! Those were the days my friend!

My biggest memory of that visit was seeing a coupla Mexican dudes in a pro street ( remember that?!) 70 Challenger, so f*cling cool. Love your vid, even if I'm 5 years late. I have a 70 Ranchero, small block, that I put a T5 in, and it rocks. See y'all!

Geoff Nicosia agreed. Him playing with that SRT8 was enough to have me laughing out loud and jump out of my chair. Oh, fuckena, the memories. I had a 1971 Torino 500 302 but it was fun and I have the hell raising memories with it. Now I have a Magnum RT so the tires still smoke!

But I agree with you, I like cars that are period correct over factory restored show cars. I like a car that is as it wouldve been when owned in its prime. The period correct aftermarket tires someone would've swapped on, the traction bars everyone was running, the glasspacks, all that. Forget making it exactly the way it rolled off the factory floor, in my opinion that's not the true history of the car. The true history is in how it would've been in its prime with all the typical goodies everyone was adding, all the typical character these cars accumulated, that in my opinion is true history

So those brackets up high in the trunk were as follows. The long jack itself sat on the ledge but the narrow side slipped under that tab on the upper part of the trunk. That tab does appear to be bent up or actually maybe part of it broken off. But the jack part of the pedestal would sit to the right where the paint is kinda chewed up, and the tire iron between the tire and the jack. Then a long J-bolt hooked that loop and went through the spare, then the jack foot fit its nose into the spare tire hub center and the jack hook on top of that on its side and then a big wing nut to top it off. If they raised a lot of hell in their car, the jack got used a lot. Mine did. As much for getting me out of ditches as for changing tires, which seemed constant. My 1971 Torino 500 gave me memories for life and taught me how to work on cars. I know every inch of that car as if it was 1985 right now. That white car is bad as hell. I could not imagine the chills I’d get and the smile I’d have driving it. Makes a grown man well up. My Magnum does almost everything better. And it has character. But the character of those old cars can’t be touched. My 1968 Country Squire and 1967 LTD Coupe were all the same way. Some awesome, some quirks, with character to hand out on Saturdays.

A 429 super cobra jet automatically came with the Drag pack, which was usually a 4:11, but could be ordered as a 3.91 Detroit Locker. Heavy duty rear springs, wider steel wheels by 1”, heavy duty shocks, heavy duty alternator, trans cooler, oil cooler, dual point distributor, solid lifters, 835 Holley instead of Autolite, no power brakes, because the cam wouldn’t allow any vacuum to build, etc.
