You've bought a lemon. Why you paid the guy £500 is beyond me. Having bought my first Morris 1100 in 1968 and over the years I've had 4, including 1300GT, so knowing where they rot, which is virtually everywhere, but in saying that mine were rot free apart from my last VDP 1300. The whole front end was taken off, less the inner wings and the trumpets were good - surprisingly! The floor pan was ok, but the sills had to be replaced along with the back lower ends of the rear wings. Fortunately in the early 1980's all original body panels were still available. To do a proper job you need to strip the car down to a bare shell, engine out and subframes removed. Unpick the front wings off because you can bet you life the trumpets under the wings are rotten. Fabricating a new A post is going to be interesting, as the rot looks like is got into the bulkhead on the n/s all the way down to the floor! Welding in new steel which has been zinc coated will help with longevity of the car plus usual underbody protection. The car from the outside looks like it has all its original parts, the seats and dash are original, the carpets are not and of course the engine isn't, but you should be able to get a standard 1300 unit of that period and then twin carb it, most parts to do the twin carb conversion including the air cleaner unit are available from Mini Spares, the original cast 3 branch manifold are as rare as hens teeth, however Maniflow will help you out there. Look forward to seeing your progress. The ADO 16 club now produce new front wings from the original tooling!

Isn't it wonderful to find what someone thought was a decent repair? Good luck. At least it'll be done properly now.

There is a company called ex-pressed steel which make sill sections, floor pans and other various panels for these.

Agree with what has been already said , a lot of work but glad you are saving it and taking it on and will be a lovely rare little car when done .I always recall a friend buying a very early dove grey Morris 1100 from 1962 from the original owner in the early 70s and with access to a pit , properly painted underneath with oil- based paint with several coats of matching grey and it just refused to rust in ownership until 1985 - see it still exists and is taxed !.You are lucky having a GT - beautiful cars !.Look forward to seeing progress.

The dreaded cover sills ! Hid everything while they quietly rotted the rest of sill and floor away. The heelboard is a weak point too where it attaches to the floor, it holds the rear subframe front mounting blocks. The rear subframe boot floor mountings are a weak spot too. As the interior floor has been painted i would think the bulkhead heater channel has rotted at the bottom. It allows the front floors to fill with rainwater. There is a way of cutting into the bulkhead and repairing this. All the best with the rebuild. I'll watch with interest ! 🙂

Looks like Blackjack Bitumen paint under there, which is good stuff for anticorrosion paint because it goes on thin and doesn't flake like underseal.

It’s such a shame these cars rust so badly, because they do drive so nice in good condition. I bought my self a 1971 mg 1300 mk2 about a year ago and it has been rust treated from new by Zebart so it has no patches or welding on it anywhere which I was really pleased to see when I got it home.

Yes, it's a real pity. And as you say, they are lovely to drive. Our 1300 GT has also managed to escape rust luckily. The trouble is, then you fear using them if it's not dry and sunny.

@@whatsintheworkshop4478that is true but I don’t find much enjoyment driving in the rain anyway.

Strip it out and get the shell dipped Would be very satisfying to then have it all visible to see what needs doing

I remember these cars when I was a kid. A relative had one. Don’t know if it was a Morris or Austin. One day he came to visit us in a new Austin Maxi in chocolate brown.
