In this episode I have a look at what I have bought and the many ways in which it was a terrible decision! #classiccars #rust #austin #bmc

You are good at analysing what previous owners have done - and whether or not they made a proper job of it! (I once bought a house like that!)

I would have left it where it was. Hope you have some luck with it.

I've got a 1968 two door MG version which has a modified 1330cc 100bhp engine. Love them! Good luck with your project!

Think this is going to be a good project, hope you keep on with it, be nice to see a wolseley being restored 👍🏻👍🏻

You need to get under the back and check the rear subframe and mounts - number one priority on these cars.

Definitely, the killer of these cars is rotten heelboards.

Just came across this and immediately subscribed! My first car (handed down from my parents) was 1973 example of these - one of the last. Too bad about the motor though - at first I thought it was an automatic (as they were single SU carb 1275). The correct engine for this would be 1275 with twin HS2 SU, LCB exhaust manifold, but NOT the bigger valve/high compression cylinder head that would have been fitted to a 1275 Cooper S, 1300 GT, or Riley Kestrel. Rated at 65 HP, vs the 70HP of the 1300 GT.

Lots of rot, no doubt the big rubber bush at the back end of the gearbox is buggered so that will thump as you drive along, we had trouble with the ribbon dash, hydrolastic suspension (awful stuff). Other than that it was grand enough. We even took it on the Wolseley Centenary event in Birmingham so that would be 2001. My mother sold it a year or so after. Iwas glad to wave it good riddance after all the welding burns from the showers of sparks as the metal just disintegrated into fierce showers of sparks despite being ground to something resembling shiny metal. Good luck, it will be fun watching and bring back memories both painful and good.

Well of those faults, I can reassure you on the bush! That looks to be good. Someone seems to have gone round replacing mounts, clearly entirely blind to all the rot!

I bought a 1969 2-door MG version back in 1994 for £200 plus delivery. It wasn't bad but work on it was slow but spend loads on it. Due to divorce though, I ended up selling it on eBay in 2007 with loads of spares for just £20. When you lose over £300,000 to a gold digger, the loss on the car doesn't matter much.

Ouch! But I understand that pain and by comparison, I got off very, very, very lightly!

Looks like a not too bad project, and it is a Wolseley the up market ADO16 models etc. Shame about the original engine not being with the car!! Good luck with the restoration. Cheers Bob

The original would also of had twin carbs! The automatic version had the single carb.
@whatsintheworkshop44783 ай бұрын
Yes, I imagine they got nicked along with the rest of the engine! You can tell I wasn't paying attention when I looked at it!

@@whatsintheworkshop4478 on a plus. It does look like it has a 1300 carb and air filter box😅

I think your pressure washer is maybe a little bit overpowered. The engine was green when you started..

Have you had the rear seat out? The rear subframe mountings were usually junk on this body.
@whatsintheworkshop44783 ай бұрын
I have yes. It's been repaired before, but it's still holding up for now!
@russthebiker3 ай бұрын
It has a nice origional interior, perhaps strip it back to a shell, and do it properly , they are increasing in value
@whatsintheworkshop44783 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's a bit too far gone to be a viable full restoration. But I'll do my best to make sure it's saved.
@leslieaustin1514 ай бұрын
Oh Dear, Indeed! A BMC rot-box.. Not sure I’d waste a 1275GT engine on it, but as a daily runner it might be OK. Hey! I’d rather see your bikes up and running, but wish you all joy with this one! Les
@whatsintheworkshop44784 ай бұрын
Yeah, if it had the one it was supposed to that would be great, but I'm not wasting another! Don't worry, plenty more bike stuff to come, but I also have some cars needing love too!
@wilburytwist66833 ай бұрын
Does it still have the twin carbs of the 1300 or has the replacement engine been fitted with its single carb ? 🤔
@whatsintheworkshop44783 ай бұрын
Single carb unfortunately.
@leonardgoldberg28794 ай бұрын
It's MOT and tax exempt. If it runs okay and the brakes work , just enjoy it over the summer. You can always rivit some tin over the holes.
@whatsintheworkshop44784 ай бұрын
Well, to an extent yes, but I think I have to draw the line somewhere on safety. I've done some poking, and it's not good! But more on that in the next video.
@russthebiker3 ай бұрын
I think you have to mot before you get exemption ?
