This week I discover even more rot on the Wolseley, but is it terminal? #rust #classiccars #british

Great work and compellingly interesting viewing , glad you kept to your descision to see her back on the road. Always recall a senior manager having a Wolseley ADO 16 1100 in porcelain green and wearing a trilby coming into work and parking at a ' reserved ' postion in the car park , marked with his status - another world !.

My mum had a maroon Wolseley 1300 TC in the late 1990s/2000 when she was alive. It had leather seats and was quite posh. It was quite a rot box and I still have burns scars on my chest after welding it up for another MOT. it wasn't as bad as yours but probably is by now? All the variants of this Austin/Morris designed car were rot boxes. I note the blood on your left hand, probably as a result of the demon inside these cars. For me, those days of repairing that Wolseley are gone, I still weld cars to earn a living but the nightmare of that design is now entertainment as my memories return watching you. Mind you, Toyota Aygo's, at ten years old they rot like mad but are great for business!

My dad had a Wolseley 1500 in grey, in the mid 60s. I can still remember the red "leather"? seats, and the lovely wood dashboard. Made us feel quit posh

You are a brave man indeed. I remember as an apprentice in 1978 welding theses cars ( rotten even then ) so not surprised at what you’re faced with today. Good luck with the restoration looking forward to seeing more videos.

That takes me back. One of the very first cars I replaced a sill on was a j reg Morris 1100 on the same side your working on now I'd just started my apprenticeship and bought because they were worth next to nothing in 1983 I paid 45 quid for it and borrowed a sick welder from work. The local Austin Rover dealer used to literally throw whatever parts they would find in the stores at me because they needed the space and considered them to be of no value. I kept alive until 1990 then gave it away 😢.

That's a fair amount of rust there... Good on you Sir... the old girl will be worth it.

Well done for persisting with this challenge. I was rather put off the whole ADO16 concept having grown up with my parent's serial addiction to the things. My Mum's second Austin 1100 lasted just seven years from new (1965) before it went off to the scrap man with terminal corrosion. By this point it was on its second rear subframe but there was nothing left to attach the heel board to. It was replaced by a 1971 Austin 1100 when I was 17. Mum then went on to buy a series of four Minis but at least with those you can still buy all the panels and if necessary a complete shell.

admire your tenacity on this! I nearly "invested" in a VDP 1300, but rejected it because of the state of the rear floor & heelboard!

I didn’t comment on the last video about another mg 1300 mk2 I bought more recently. But it’s in a very rough state needing new front wing, floor pans and sills ext. but when I bought it it didn’t come with a V5 but it did have a number plate. And I didn’t want to see someone buy it just to rip out the engine to stick in a Mini Cooper s replica so I bought it for what it was work in parts. So when I got it I decided I might as well try applying for a new V5 for it, so I did and after about a month or so I got the V5 for it and it turns out it’s a one owner from new and has only covered 38,000 miles (at least that’s the milage on the speedometer). So I am more enthusiastic about restoring it now and I’m sure I will get around to it eventually after finishing the restoration on my MGB. Although as I said earlier the 1300 mk2 is rotten the door pillar aren’t full of filler and are still holding the doors on quite strong as they still close quite nice, but lucky no one has been at it before with the welder at lest so there aren’t and nasty surprises I can’t already see which is a positive. Anyway that’s enough rambling from me, nice video and good luck with the rest of the restoration.

If there's one thing my car can do, it's make yours seem less rusty! If no one else has been in there before bodging previously, that makes it a much more worthwhile project as well. Good luck!

Very impressed with your tenacity! Nice to see an ADO16 being saved. Lovely little cars, shame they were so prone to rust. Good luck and keep at it.

(Back in 1971) I managed to get a perfect low mileage MG 1100 complete engine and gearbox inc twin SUCarbs etc from a smashed up car to go into my 850 mini. I think the whole lump cost me £75 from a fairly local scrap yard, (we had to take it out ourselves). That was a lot of money for a teenager in those days, probably something like almost two months salary?

In 2000 I bought an Austin 1300 countryman in a very rusty condition . 24 years later it’s almost ready for the road . Sometimes things take longer than you think they will and are much worse than you think they will be but it’s all repairable .

Try express steel panels yorkshire .or try and build your own A post section by section .You would probably be better off carefully Removing the outer wing .👍

I had a look on the Express steel website, but they don't do the A post unfortunately.

l've restored a lot of cars over the years from 1930's Morris 10 and 12 to Triumph and MG's cars of the 70's so l know exactly what your faced with, l wish l'd got a quid for every cornflake box l'd cut up for templates over the years lmao. lt's a challenge but going by your fab and welding skills l'm sure this car will see the road again, if it gets too much leave it for a few days then go back to it that way it always seems less daunting.

Yes, but it would be wise if I get on with it quickly and then prioritise the Hillman Superminx that I was supposed to restore for her so years ago 🤣

I bought a Riley Elf in 1994 to restore for my wife. She was learning to drive and I bet her I could get the car back on the road before she passed her test. She won the challenge. In fact by the time I finished the Elf in 2003 we were divorced😢 but I don't think the Elf was a major factor in that 😊

@whatsintheworkshop44783 ай бұрын
This car is just not a candidate for a full restoration unless it had some sentimental value. Even if I did it myself so only paid costs, it still would cost more than it's worth. But if I can save it from the crusher and get it back on the road, that's still much better than the alternative. However, stay tuned for proper restorations in the near future. I have plenty in the pipeline.

I think you could repair that A-post... if the driver's side is still present use it (and the original passenger one) as a guide to where the edges of the panel would be and weld pieces on to get it there (like doing the outside of a jigsaw. After that recreate the centre of it with metal folded over in a U profile. Don't worry about how many small pieces you use to recreate the whole. It won't be seen and as long as the shape and position of the holes (for the hinges etc) is correct it will work fine. Try watching *Yorkshire Car Restoration* 's videos for inspiration. They make all sort of repairs from small pieces kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGrSY4uloKmlbJI

Yes, anything is possible with enough perseverance I suppose. It's a shame the bottom bent so much in removing the door. If the parts were still in the same place it would make a repair easier.
