1970s Lego Train Set

Last year I bought a secondhand Lego 162, complete and in perfect condition. Buying the things I desperately wanted as a kid, but never had, as we do! 😄 Unfortunately the box hadn't survived the years intact, but the seller supplied the photos of the models carefully cut from the box. It looked like it had never been played with! All eight wheels were of the tapered-tread locomotive type (wagon/coach wheels don't have tapered-treads), and all of them had rubber tyres fitted. A bonus was it also came with a 4.5V motor and battery wagon. I've not got any 12V stuff, so it has to drag that around, at the usual slow 4.5V speed, unfortunately!

Wow, I think we had this set growing up, it was my older brothers. I'll never forget the year we were visiting my grandparents in Germany and it was my brothers birthday, this was 1978/79?, they got him an electric Lego set in yellow and grey/black?, (set 960?, 950?) man he (we) freaked out, it was so cool. Around that same time they sent us a space Lego set, it was the first time I saw a color, translucent brick, awesome times!

@@bricksbeersbeards9368 Thats amazing! I love stories like this. You grew up during a cool era of Lego. The space sets and the color translucent are awesome. I have a few original Lego space sets and they are awesome. I don’t have those trains yet but I’ll be excited to add them to the collection soon. Thank you again I bet that was an awesome experience

Hi James, how is the Emerald Night coming along? I love to see people review this set and give it the attention it deserves. It was my first mining scale train set, which I got for Christmas in 2009 at 9 years old when it was a 14+ age range set. 😁
