Guitarist Mick Ralphs remained with the band until 1973, leaving just after they achieved their commercial breakthrough with the David Bowie-produced album All the Young Dudes. Upon exiting Mott the Hoople, he founded Bad Company along with vocalist Paul Rodgers from the band Free.

Hey Barrie, I had no idea about his connection to Bad Company...very interesting. So many musicians were connected to each other. Thanks for that 🤩

Hi Sue, This is a class song written by a class musician... but it isn't live flower, but it's good to see the band anyway. Oh the memories 😂

They weren't exactly one hit wonders in the UK, they had half a dozen Top 20 records. Other ones I remember are 'Roll Away The Stone and All The Way From Memphis. Bowie did record the song but it was unreleased until it appeared on some compilation albums

Hey Mark, yeah this is what I was mentioning off the top. It us iften the case that a band will have more hits in their home country. This happens all the time here in Canada. Bands will have many hits here but may have one in other parts of the world. I think that is pretty common. Thanks so much for tuning in and commenting 🤩

@@playitagainsue it's gonna be hard to find a pure one hitter. Norman Greenbaum "Spirit in the sky" the Vapours "turning Japanese" Chumbawamba ‘Tubthumping’ The Knack "My Sharona’ The Buggles "video killed the radio star" Are the only ones I can think of off hand.

Honaloochie Boogie and The Golden Age of Rock & Roll were also big hits. And then Ian Hunter had a hit with Once Bitten Twice Shy just after he left Mott.

Wonderful Glam Rock Anthem 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Great Song Wonderful Band. Mott had a Great 3 Album Run and were about to hit the Big Time while it all Fell Apart. What Should Have Been. Such a Shame

Hey Jon, yes it is a shame. This song is fabulous. Too bad they didn't stick around for more 😎

Hi Sue, the Motts had a number of hits in the UK, including the wonderful Roll Away The Stone, which made the top 10 & is a lot of fun. Give it a listen with the Top Of The Pops performance - hilarious. This song is great as well & gave the band the song, when he heard they were planning to break up due to lack of success.
@playitagainsue9 ай бұрын
Hey Dave, excellent. I will give it a listen. I guess we could say this song is somewhat of a saviour then 😉
@daveharris72249 ай бұрын
@@playitagainsue It certainly was. This song enabled them to earn some money, stay in the good books of their record label & allowed them to record a number of albums.

I love these guy's were brilliant, coming from Derbyshire in the UK They're very T-Rex meets Bowie (coincidentally typing this when they mention T Rex, joust before your Bowie comment. Early '72 Originally M. T. H. We're offered, "Suffragette City" to record but turned it down Bowie recorded his version in late '72 for "Aladdin Sane" 😂 All the way from Memphis was a top 20 back home. And Roll away the stone was a top 10.👌

Hey Jono, very interesting. I wonder how they felt when Suffragette City did so well for Bowie. I love your mix...T-Rex meets Bowie...perfect description 🤩💜

.. Epic song, but one I didn't think much of as a kid .. It wasn't conventionally pop enough for me back then, and just seemed like some guy yelling out stuff amidst a droning chorus that meant nothing to me .. How my feelings have changed with this one ! .. Love everything about it now, and Ian Hunter's semi-spoken and "yelled' vocals are perfect .. Thanks, Sue 👍

Hi Wayne, I completely understand this. There are many songs I didn't like when I was younger but now really appreciate them. I think our taste in music gets more advanced and we appreciate things that we didn't before. I have always liked this song. Its just got a really cool vibe about it. The chorus and the backup singing really hooks me and the lead singer delivers the song so well 🤩💜

A good one hit wonder from the 70s is David Essex and his song "Rock On" - nothing sounded quite like this back in '73.

Derek "Blue" Weaver played with Mott the Hoople and was lured away by the Bee Gees. He's not in this video. Queen was Mott's opening act on their first US tour in 1974 but left half way through when Brian May got hepatitis. I had one of their LP's bur stupidly got rid of over 300 LP's, many quite rare. Glam rock? What's the first hint? Medallions, weird guitars and tight satin/polyester clothes. 🤣

Haha yes, I think that all gave it away, Linda 😜 So hard to think if Queen as an opening act. They were just so big but everyone needed to start at the beginning with being an opening act...very cool fun fact 🤩
