My dad had one of these and it was pancaked by another car in an accident while it was parked on a street in... Detroit! My dad wasn't in it and the car was totalled. The backseat of that car was like a leather wrapped cocoon. I loved that car. Cried when I heard it was gone. His next car was a Lincoln Mk IV.

I graduated HS in 1977 and within 3-4 years later I had TWO friends who had pre-owned boat tail Rivs, a '71 like this one and another that I don't recall the year but it had the vents in the trunk lid. We loved them back then but had no idea that this design would be so iconic all these years later. They were just nice used cars in our day! Awesome to see this one.

I'll never forget setting the dwell on the points on that front mounted distributor right next to the fan while it was running. Not to mention packing the external oil pump gears with Vaseline to create a suction so it'll suck the oil out of the pan with that distributor driven oil pump shaft.

They are a bit of the rare side because not a huge amount of them were made in the two years that they were produced. 31,810 in 1971and 33,728 in 1972 ans 34,080 in 1973. Surprisingly the years that these were manufactured sales were not great so they stopped making this design.😭 I think that many of the people that could afford them really didn't appreciate the design.
