One of the best lookin cars ever made. In any of its guises
@garydurandt42602 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly the South African Capri's had the Essex 3l V6 motor, as per the Cortina and was distinguished from the smaller engined Capri's by means of the "power bulge" on the bonnet. The original number plates ending in "EC" means it came from the Eastern Cape, either Port Elizabeth or East London. East London was where Ford at the time, manufactured their vehicles, later moving to Silverton in Pretoria. As a young boy, visiting Cape Town, I remember the advertising blurb when this car was first introduced as "A streetcar named desire"

I have a totally original 1 owner (my dad), Ford Capri RS2600. In factory condition with only 5000 miles on the clock. I believe it’s the rarest Capri there is. 😊😊

my first car was a mk1 capri back in 1982 with rear louver, kernal bogey air horns, goodmans speaker not fixed down on rear shelf, oil, vacuum, volt & amp gauges fitted to the back on a bonnet bulge, I also had a fibre optic gauge that ran to all lights & indicators to show they were working.

Blue Mink....a very popular metallic colour also seen on the 1600E, Corsair 2000E, Mk4 Zodiac and even Mk2 Lotus Cortina.

Your right they were, but unfortunately the paint used to peel off?

@@bernardrandles8013 It wasn't just the Blue Mink. I had a 1968 Cortina GT in Saluki Bronze an the paint just fell off. Otherwise it was a fabulous car.

@@johnstone1740 yes your right I worked for a manager who had a mk2 cortina in that colour Lovely but typically of that era a rot box

@@bernardrandles8013 The paint was rubbish, I worked for a Ford main dealer in 1971, we would have one or two metallics in the bodyshop at a time. Full paint strip under warranty, we used gallons of paint stripper, then a full respray. If left unprimed overnight rust would set into the bodyshell. So what, give the panels a thinners soaked rag rubdown and blow it over. I presume if rust didn't get the body shell within a couple of years the paint would probably peel again anyway. Cortina Mk2 and then Mk3's, mostly blue mink and silver fox colours. We used low bake ovens. The Mk3 was a pearler, loads of plastic trim. When introduced they used to come out of the oven, superb paint finish but with plastic trims melted and distorted. Ford hadn't noticed, odd considering low bake refinishing was their preferred method of repair. Now you know why those garage signs say no customers allowed beyond this point or something similar. I can't be too critical though, when I was an apprentice I drove a car off the end of a ramp. Happy days.

1970/71 The Ford Capri 3 ltd V6 was the most popular stolen car. I knew of a man who had his car stolen three times. It was around this time they introduced the steering lock/ignition system on cars.

I had a 1972 Capri 2000 GT in orange with black vinyl roof no bulge in the bonnet but the same single headlights I thought that the 3ltr had twin headlights. I did change the small rear lights over to the much bigger Mk 2 ones I had wanted to get a 3ltr but could not find one in my price range so I opted an Orange 2ltr one it had the Transit V4 engine in it a very good engine so good that I never bothered to change it for a 3ltr in the end.

Imported my 3000GT from Australia in 2019. Gearbox was damaged in transit and I had to fit a type 9 5spd as I couldn't find a decent 4spd at the time. 5spd ratios are crap for the Essex unfortunately.
