Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda project car. This car requires a complete restoration and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
In this episode I install the AMD rear quarters, inner and outer wheelhouses, tail panel, trunk latch support, hinges, & more!

That boy will cherish that car all his life. He has sweat equity in it now! By watching you two work, makes me miss my dad. From an early age, dad let me get in his way more than helping him. Because of dad letting in on fixing all our old cars. I become a career mechanic. I worked in the business for 48 years.

Gee, I wish my 71 was that far along. I got the floors and firewall removed. But my uncle passed away and we all had to help his daughters deal with his massive collection of cars, machinery and tractors etc. It's been several years but this summer I plan to get back on it. Dropping a real deal 426 Hemi into mine.

Your workmanship looks great but if I can make two comments. I don't know if you prepped the panels prior to por15. Por15 does not stick well long term to smooth panels and roughing it up with 36 grit and metal ready prep would have assured you of bonding. Also when I have done this job I prime and paint the inside of the panel first before weldable primer and undercoating it. I go through a gallon of paint just doing trunk, inner fenders, back of fenders, places you won't have access to later. It just gives another layer of protection in my mind. I do tape the welds like you do to assure a tight fit. Also as another poster said, placing the windows in is much easier prior to quarter install on e-bodies. It can be done though that way. I hope this helps.

Nice you’re turning your son into a future body man! He will be awesome by the time he is 16 (body man I mean). Why not cut the POR15 with reducer and just spray it on with a hvlp gun? It would be quicker and you wouldn’t have the brush strokes. I always spray on Eastwood’s rust encapsulator and seldom brush it on. I just think it’s easier and you get a better finish. The car looks great. Nice work. ❤

Totally could! The por15 self levels & lays out pretty good. Unless you are brushing well into it drying, you shouldn’t see any brush strokes

I would have installed the quarter windows before the quarter while you had all that access, or atleast the quarter window mechanisms

The smile on T- Bones face said it all, spraying the lizard skin. I know you still have some tweeking to do, but the curve down line at the top of the quarter and the sharp body line down the side, the top of the panel fitment door to quarter already looks damn good, what was that a couple hundred holes you welded a half inch at a time.. There were people at the factory, who leaded these seams, as thier daily job for 20 years or so, and I don`t think thier seams looked much better than yours, very impressed with this video man, that is a thick healthy bead of lead that will probably last 60 years out of the elements. Very well done, my friend, you got yourself a Cuda, staying tuned in from S. E. Michigan.

Leading is always worth it at the roof. Paid a guy to blast and lead my A&B pillars on the Bronco 20 years back. Not a bubble and it's seen every Winter since. Glad your eye isn't worse. You got lucky my friend. Yeah the body materials come inside to the basement each November here and get stored upside down on shelves NOT the concrete floor. I was in Rotten Ronnie's 30 odd years ago and they were renovating. Apprentice brings in two 5 gallon pails of contact cement(Winter time). Contractor prys lids off and they've got solid rubber in the pails. Heard some new words that morning. Your CUDA looks super straight. Should look like a million bucks after bodywork. Looking forward to all the chassis strengthening stuff, but be careful haste makes.....black eyes. Malcolm Ottawa Valley

Why are you using zinc based weld thru primer and not copper based? Why did you spary under coat before welding?
@rustbucketrestos6511
@rustbucketrestos6511 Жыл бұрын
Zinc based is 1/2 price from copper on Amazon. Haven’t noticed any difference in the final product. Undercoating was put on the inside of the panels that won’t be accessible after they are welded on.
@cuda70gt7
@cuda70gt7 Жыл бұрын
@@rustbucketrestos6511 i mentioned it cause zinc vaporizes at 905 deg were copper vap at 2500 deg. Which means copper can liquify when welding then re- solidify were zinc will vaporize and be gone. Results appear the same but long term is copper will remain. Zinc will not....copper is worth the extra money.

@@rustbucketrestos6511 i have one more question for you. I am working on my 1970 cuda same f4 green as yours. The rear wheel tubs, are they spot welded? Or spot welded and crimped the way they did the tubs on your charger? I want to replace my outer tubs only as my inner are nice and i don't want to ruin them. Thx
@rustbucketrestos6511
@rustbucketrestos6511 Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are spot welded to the rockers, quarter panel, inner wheelhouse and the trunk drop.
@cuda70gt7
@cuda70gt7 Жыл бұрын
@@rustbucketrestos6511 oh im speaking of the top rib flange the holds the 2 halfs of the wheel tubs togther. The factory welded and crimped the tubs togther. Are the E body spot welded only? No crimping? Which means i only need to drill out the spot welds and the outer half should pop off.?
