Hardware store pop rivets holding the VIN tag?
@jessicagreene1773
@jessicagreene1773 2 жыл бұрын
I think Steve got taken on this one. VIN on dash doesn't have the right rivets, no driver's door decal with VIN, no fender tag, standard dashboard instead of ralley dash, 1970 grille instead of sharktooth. I'm thinking standard Duster with a VIN tag change.

Idk Steve , you know more about Mopars than I do , but that duster has some serious problems , with the wrong dash , grill and pop rivets on the vin , it kinda looks like someone re bodied a 340 duster , and with both quarters being patched above the maker lights on both sides , it could be a 72 and up duster body

I would be curious to see the numbers on the wiper cowl area as well as the radiator support and trunk lip to validate this car. I totally agree those rivets are massive red flags for that VIN tag for sure

Nice looking car. did Mopar offer bumpers without chrome in 1971 or did you forget to mention that you are sponsored and is about to fool people?

I don't think there was a car made in those days that weren't prone to rust in 3 years so plenty were loaded with bondo then but if it survived this long it was done right and cared for and to spend the $$$ for that stroker i doubt its a 'bondo buggy'

Hey Steve I love what you do, but that Duster bodywork isn't as good as you made it out to be. You said as you walked up the side of the car, that the car was great because of the rear 1/4 panels were all steel. You can tell by the shape of them around the wheelarch that they have had some pretty heavy bodywork done to them. The wheelarch lines were never that pronounced and then when you opened the trunk, you can see rhe full bottom 1/4 panel replacements on both sides. They are not even fitted very nice. Still having the top edge fold Seam on the inner side. If done properly that top fold should be cut off and shaped to the rest of the 1/4. The inside should look like the outside bodywork wise. At least they are not covered with a big peice of dynamat or sound deadening material. So it is good in a way that they are not trying to hide the repairs. Well at least the rear lower 1/4 panels anyway.

THAT VIN has been screwed with DOES THE dash VIN match the BODY stamped partial VIN's???? And don't feed us that crap about "hemi 4 speed." Wrong. That is not the pristine car you make it out to be.

Certainly putting out a LOT more than a 340 anyway so thats a nice upgrade, i would rather have the power than being a 100% stock trailer queen, that hood looks hottt. Crate motor?

Pretty sure it's got the wrong grill for '71 AND I'm pretty sure there was NO 'tuff' steering wheel option either BUT I do love that wheel and would probably put it on myself. On the other hand I'd much prefer the '71 grill.

Bottom line. Bought one of these in 1975 while in High School. Baddest car for miles. Next year everyone into go fast sold their Chevy or Ford for a Mopar. A few die hands stuck with their rides. '57 Chevy panel delivery a '65 Vett and '66 Mustang 289 with 4.56 rear. He had me for about 150 yards. Gas crisis time. These cars sold for hundreds not thousands. In '77 headers,cam,intake blah blah blah. Bad fast car.

This thing is a total fake that was thrown together to rip off an unsuspecting buyer. The builder couldn't even be bothered to find a proper rallye dash to affix the 340 car VIN to? Come on. He's not even trying to conceal the fraud he just committed. I hope nobody is dumb enough to pay 40K for this turd.

i own a factory h code 71 duster 340 and after watching the video of this duster id say its an original 318 car made into a 340 duster with a vin tag from another car . all 1971 duster 340s from factory came with a rallye dash standard along with the shark tooth grille as standard . the fender tag code for rallye dash cluster is A62 . this duster has the standard dash cluster you would get with a 6cyl or 318 car . the rivets on the vin tag are also a red flag this car isnt legit .

No they were standard on 71 340 cars. I believe this car is a rebody. Someone moved the 71 vin to a different dash.

too bad they never kept the same basic Grill and looks, the 1973 had major improvements for Handling , they changed the Center link set up to the same one that the B-E Bodies had , only then do you get to have quick ratio 14:1 steering idler and pitman arms . also the 15 inch and large bolt pattern wheels were then made
