God!.....It thrills me to hear these sweet Norton's EVERY time I hear one fire up! Brings me back to when I giot home from 'Nam & a late fellow worker drove one to work every day! He lost his life on that bike but memory of being his friend (we mutually dated the same young lady, @ different times of course) rekindles better days. His name was Bob Schroeder.

Sounds a nice healthy engine. Just in the process of restoring an Interstate 850 mk2a imported back here to the UK from the USA, so i hope mine will sound as good. Thanks for the video!

Very nice. I used to own a Rickman Enfield one of 125 or so. It had a similar gearbox. There is a movie about a fellow driving his black vintage Norton Commando across Canada. Happy Riding.

With that single Mikuni that Commando does not have the acceleration, the torque or the grunt it was engineered to have. Most Mikuni owners have forgotten or they've never known the original response the dual carbs give these machines. Get some dual Amals on this bike and let it be the 50+ year old beast it is meant to be. It's much cheaper to rebuild the Amals, flush the ethanol gas plugging the idle circuitry than to buy the Mikuni kit. It's approx the same $ to buy the dual Amal Premier carbs as it is to buy the single Mikuni kit. Get that grunt back.

As an Englishman I am embarrassed to be associated with these piles of prehistoric junk. There's a bloody good reason why the British bike industry collapsed,it's called the CB750. Take off your rose tinted spectacles, realise that ` character' is not a useful trait in a reliable motorcycle if it can't get you to work and back on a daily basis, and buy something Japanese. avoid HD's like the plague😊

I agree with you. I have two Nortons in the garage along with one Honda VFR. I only ride the Honda.

If you own a Norton Commando you can buy any parts you need, brand new, shipped worldwide and receive them in less than a week. Mr Honda stopped making parts for those '70's CB's after only a few years. Honda parts had to be sourced from used and some after market or ebay suppliers. That was so you can spend more hard earned money and buy a new Honda. The buyers of Asian iron never saw that coming. But I will admit for someone who can't wrench a motorcycle you might as well buy Japanese. My buddy did and he's been trying to sync those CB carbs for over 20 years. Still runs like sewage. Poor guy, he stopped trying to keep up with my beautiful '72 Norton Combat a long time ago. Probably can't get parts.

Well, we won't come to you for motorcycle advice anytime soon. Or later. Harley's are awesome. Just buy some blue Locktite.
