Bobby Allison did his own mechanic work , he built engines and set up the chassis. his son's Clifford and Davey greet him when he gets out of the car in victory lane.

that old Atlanta Track was the best track to watch a race , you could see every thing around the track! Nascar promoted it as " The Best Viewing Track of the Nascar Circuit "

It was a sad day when the Atlanta Motor Speedway was reconfigured to a Charlotte clone in the 1990s. I loved the old Atlanta layout of the quarter-mile straights and the half-mile turns; as it made it a real driver's track.

i say the same thing .those half mile turns made that track different . i went there in the 80s

I know this as an old comment, I watched many races in the original config., but there was a lot of good racing in ATL as a trioval. Love him or hate him, Bodine turning 197 mph average around the track, made that place a real separation between the men and the boys. Nascar lost me completely when they made that place a "superspeedway". That is ridiculous.

Bobby and the coke machine were tough to beat as he barely lost the 72 championship . he won 10 races and led in all races except one.

This how we got tv race coverage back then. If ABC and The Wide World of Sports hadn't given us clips of races, there would have been none.

I wish they had never reconfigured Atlanta.

ABC-TV starting the race coverage well-into the race was the norm back in the early to late 1970s. Live over-the-air-TV [as sports cable wasn't a reality at the time] flag-to-flag NASCAR race coverage was still years away.

Donnie's car was built by Bobby, and I believe it was the car under construction of cover of Stock Car Racing Magazine, straight out of Hueytown!

Is it me, or was ABC still using RCA TK-41's as late as 1972? (I think I read something about ABC ordering a dozen of the last batch of TK-41's in 1966 as part of their investment in color TV.)

Notice Bobby's car had two different fonts for numbers on each side.

"All top five are going to be impounded and torn down, to insure no one is cheating", after.. "These mechanics found a way to make a restrictor plate fail after the first 100 miles" LOL.

Just another race WWoS covered in early 70s on a mile and a half or shorter race track wherein we join the race half way through and one car has already blown the rest off of the track. Just cars goin round and round. It’s easy to see why abc didn’t renew, no more than 1/2 dozen teams were racing to win and could afford the tires

He lost championship because of JUNIOR he was driving for him and last race he was kept from running the race. That car was one of the best CHEV,s ever built by JUNIOR I miss those days
