I had a 1972 Demon 340 4spd i bought in 1980 for $800. It was canary yellow with black interior. Mine had factory A/C.

I bought a new ‘72 Demon for $2850 with an automatic and a/c and drove it for many trouble free years. Awesome car except the body rusted out and looked like Swiss cheese and trunk leaked. The engine was incredible. Cheap,plastic seats and interior didn’t wear well but the car was super reliable. It’s probably still,out there somewhere after a body restoration.

My first car back in 79’ was a 71’ Demon, brown paint, black partial vinyl room and a slant 6, manual 3 on the floor. Paid $300 for it! My grandpa had a used car dealership. Sad thing, an oak tree got in my way and we loss.

I bought a 1971 demon slant six. The car was a crazy color,lime green and yellow mix. The reason I bought it was a great deal on it. I drove that car 166000 miles. It was still running good when I traded it. Probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. All I did was maintenance,that’s it.

Love the color combination. I had a white with black stripes. It doesn't appear that hood is original at least with those scoops since mine didn't have an insulation pad so the scoops were open to the intake and it is missing the hood striping. Does it have a thermo quad?

I’m pretty sure that motor shouldn’t be blue? It should be orange. Dodge stopped painting them blue in 1968. Plymouth carried on with the blue paint for several more years.

Wrap it up…I’ll take it. I wish. I had a good friend in high school (1985) that had one of these 72’s, beautiful Dark Bronze stock 340 Demon. I loved that car, but I was, and am, a musician so I spent (spend) all my money on guitars. Now I’m an old man who wants one of these things bad, just out of nostalgia. One day I’m going to grab myself a ‘72 Demon. God willing.

There aren't many that were built because the Dodge Dart was an economy car. For the price of a Demon 340, you could step up to a Challenger which had a lot more standard equipment for the same price.

yeah but that is not a Dart it's a Duster with the Dart front end and they did not build many because were built for 2 year only 1971 and 72 that's it. I would take a Demon over a 72 Challenger

Horsepower on the pre 1972 340's was listed as 275 hp, in 1972 they dropped to 245 hp.

@@ottoandhanzblack2175 They dynode at 332 in 71...they dropped the rings on the poston an 1/8 of an inch and RUINED the 340. With the light weight of the demon a set of 391 gears, aluminum center head and the timing advanced 2 degrees you were the cock of the walk around here. We were beating 454 Chevelle's by nearly 2 car lengths......their horsepower were WAY OVER RATED.

@outboardfixer The hp ratings I listed were put out by Chrysler, but the actual hp numbers certainly on the pre 1972 340 was actually about 50 horses higher. You are correct! I grew up in Chicago and the biggest Mopar performance dealer was Mr. Norms Dodge. He did dyno tuning as well as anything else you wanted. He was responsible for fitting big block Mopar engines in the demon/dart size cars and convincing Chrysler it could be done and sold them on doing this to keep performance car sales competitive with GM and Ford. I had a 340 dyno tuned by Mr. Norm's back in the day. Great times!!

That 71 demon would beat a 350 NOVA by about 9 car lengths. 396's and 454's were a serious race but beatable with an empty tank, no one in and 45 lbs pressure in the tires!

@outboardfixer My first car in high-school was a 69 dart swinger with a 340. Put on an edelbrock manifold and a pair of hooker headers, it was a good runner...had the most fun with that car than any other I have owned!
