What a great video, Lou! I had a 340 powered '72 Demon, with a four barrel Holley (not the usual Thermoquad from the factory) and factory 4 speed, with a hurst shifter. Went like a bastard.Demon was only manufactured for two years, '71 and '72. Low production numbers make this guy and his statement about rarity, very authentic. In '71 there were 10,100 Demon 340s made and in '72 only 8700 came off the line, at the price of about $2,700 (dependent on options of course). So finding a Demon today in any kind of shape, is a very tall order.

When I was 11, my brother pulled a Brown, 340, Demon, exactly like this, onto our driveway. My Dad totally freaked out, being a Buick/ GM guy in 78. My brother's first car scared the crap out of me: Fast, loud, and after an unsupervised weekend with four of his auto shop friends, an insanely faster car. These cars were every Camero, Mustang, GTO, or 442 guys worse nightmare. And, yeah..... I remember that growl...... Great guy with a great car.

The Dodge Demon was introduced a year after the Plymouth Duster. When the Duster sold like hotcakes in its inaugural 1970 model year, Dodge dealers felt left out, so Chrysler management arranged a deal in which Dodge got the Demon, while Plymouth was given its own copy of the Dart Swinger hardtop, which was the Scamp. But soon a lot of people, especially religious groups, literally gave Dodge hell for calling their car the Demon, so they changed its name to Dart Sport for 1973. BTW, Chrysler called the steering wheel the "Tuff" steering wheel. Of course, this speed demon already looks tuff enuff!

Hi Brian, Back in the early 1970's I can remember the quarter panels would rust on this type of car (Dusters, Demon, Swingers, and Chargers) in IL based on the salt used by trucks when plowing snow it seemed by the end of the year, and 3 years tops if it was a daily driver, so to see one today is this condition, it's pretty cool. Thanks for commenting, Lou
@blah96647 жыл бұрын
Brian Chappie They were only made 2 years, 71 and 72. They stopped making them because religious groups complained about the name "demon". I'm suprised dodge has now come out with the new challenger DEMON. I just wish they would of brought back the demon itself rather than just throw the name on the challenger.

I'm not at all surprised you got your doors blown off by a 340 Demon. I bought a '69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 new the weekend the first astronauts landed on the moon. I was in the navy stationed in Charleston, S.C., and there was plenty of street racing still going on at the time. The power to weight ration on those small Dodges was great. The 275 H.P. rating was under rated. I think AHRA and NHRA refactored them at 325 H.P. I know I had many a 383 Road Runner/GTX/Super Bee/Cornet stop me (after I blew their doors off) to peer under my hood, then scratch their head to find out I had a stock 340. Stock, other than I dumped the Carter AVS for 780 CFM Holley carb. But the featured '71 Dodge Demon is much better (floor console, buckets, etc.) than my stripped down Swinger. But you can't expect much for $2,600 at the time, which was all my navy pay would allow me to afford.

Stripes were installed to low. Fuel cap handle should be black . Stripes should be texture black on a 71. Also Autometer tach not factory. The engine compartment has many things wrong.
