Absolutely stunning! A slightly lesser Lincoln than a fluffed up Ford. But that buzzer! The evolution of that convenience feature is remarkable how evolved to a pleasant chime to a chirp reminding you the keyless fob is not inside the car when a door is closed and the fob is outside the vehicle.

Those were huge cars. My parents had the non-Marquis version of this Monterey wagon....looks like the main difference is the Marquis has the covered headlights and maybe a bit more chrome here and there. The car could haul heavy RV trailers without breaking a sweat, but had sloppy handling, and liked to keep going straight when the driver wanted to go left or right. Quality was not really very goid either, especially in the sheet metal and electrical systems. But I took my driver's license test on that boat, so I still have some fondness for it.

The Lincoln of wagons. This is what you bought if you were upwardly mobile and needed a nice family car. It even has the passenger side view mirror - a rarity in cars of this vintage. This competed with the Chrysler Town & Country (wagon) and Buick and Oldsmobile wagons.

They don't make parking spots that large anymore. I started driving in the era of these beasts, people think they can drive today, I challenge them to parallel park one of these machines when taking their driving test, I did it in a full size dodge wagon, no parking assistance option. Lololol. Ahhhhhh the late 1970s early 1980s great days to be young and driving.

I had a white version of this. We had 2 kids and 2 dogs so it fit us for awhile. Mileage was maybe 12 MPG going downhill with a tailwind. It had an unfortunate habit of shutting off while driving leading to several dangerous situations an an irate letter from my wife to the president of a Ford. Many trips to the dealership could not find the problem but on Good Samaritan who stopped to help fixed it with a pair of pliers! My wife to this day, some 47 yrs later, will not let me by another Ford. Having said that, when the car drove it was like sitting in your Easy chair as you floated down the highway

My father bought a brand new 72 Mercury Marquis Colony Park with a 400 ci engine. It was the first year that stringent pollution control laws took affect, so it was noticably less powerful than the 66 Pontiac Le Man's with a 326 ci engine that we previously had. Nevertheless, I have some good memories. Very comfortable and lots of room in the back for hauling stuff.

Looks like they put new woodie on it. And didn't have a complete, matching set. The tailgate is supposed to have woodie, too. And it's got dark brown paint. I'd buy it anyway...

What's with the non matching wood trim? The driver's side has horizontal lines down the sides, the passenger side has no lines. Still it's a nice car, hope it's a 460.
@martinjordan39947 жыл бұрын
why did they do different wood on the drivers side?
@frozenbits485 жыл бұрын
car has had some sort of accident. front bumper remounted not quite right. the di-noc (fake wood) on the left side is the Ford Pattern. right side is the Mercury pattern. i know the difference as i worked with Ford/ Lincoln Mercury for several years in the 1970's.
@robertelee27975 жыл бұрын
@@frozenbits48 they should hire a pinstripe artist to fix that!
@lvsqcsl3 жыл бұрын
Looks like the left side of the car has the Ford Country Squire pattern and the right side has the Mercury pattern without the black lines. Mercury wagons had metal trim that had the simulated wood grain down the center of the trim and Ford wagons had the fiberglass trim. I think it was that way until Ford quit making wagons in 1991. My dad used to work at the local Ford dealership and attach that fake wood applique. I guess you could consider that an early form of a "wrap." Great video!

I bought a ‘72 Colony Park Brougham with 55,000 miles on it in ‘79. Paid over 2,000.00 for it at a Chevy dealer who charged me 19 percent interest. Had to pay for new compressors twice before summer even arrived and then the fan barely blew. Worst car I EVER owned. Terrible gas mileage and the electrical system was a nightmare. Rattily, air conditioning was constantly broken, the fan output was anemic, the vacuum powered automatic door locks wouldn’t work, and some of the stereo speakers wouldn’t work. The car looked great but it was crap.

The Marquis Colony Parks base price was lower than $4555. The 4 door sedan was more expensive because it had the 429 2V V8 as standard along with automatic transmission power steering and brakes. The Colony Park came with power steering and brakes but had a 390 2V V8 and 3 speed manual transmission as standard when this equip ment was ordered on the wagon it was more expensive. The Buick Estate Wagon and the Chrysler Town & Country Wagons were more expensive.

Driver's side wood is horrible! Big dent pounded out. Obviously hit and rebuilt. Looks like a wrecker. Sorry kids, hard pass! Awesome cars back in their day though. Several of my friend's moms had these bad boys. HUGE! 7-8 kids rolling around in the back. Seatbelts? HAHA! Whatever.......drive in movies in the back or on the roof or sitting on the hood. Insanity, but such good times! Kids today have no idea what they've missed.

Whats with the music?? In my city people whom drove mercury marquis were monied up big time, Dentist, architect etc not rural. Great vehicle, that we will NEVER see Detroit build again because Detroit doesnt build cars we want !!! They build cars THEY want and try to force that soulless shite they call cars down own throats!!! Well, not this Veteran, I but vehicles from 70' s and very few early 80s like Buicks 1980 Park Ave. lincolns 78 Mk V. Etc.Now those are cars AND are still around today.Lets see how many of todays turds are around in 2040?? 2050 huh??
