In this video we will take a deep dive into the British Classic the MG - MGB. The car was the most popular British Roadster in history selling just under 400,000 units. This affordable car was fun to drive and reasonably dependable. Join us for the experience

Lol. 0 to 60 in "a lot". I like the look you gave your wife during the "engine" cue. She made a great video though. Appreciate all the honesty in this video. I've got a green '72. They're fun cars. New cars stink.

There were approximately 525, 000 MGBs produced between 1962 and 1980, most of which were "tourers" commonly called roadster. MG made an MGC GT and an MGC Roadster The stated HP for a pre 72 MGB was 95-98. The last single carb, smogged Bs had 68 HP. On the 1972 in the video: The front turn signals and parking lamps are installed backwards. Your engine bay is not original (good thing) as it has been de-smogged with removal of the Canister and the Pump. Recommend 1. Drain the fuel and have the tank checked for rust and debris. 2. Have the fuel pump check, repaired or replaced 3. Vibration from the rear: Check the tightness of the knock offs, check tire condition and wheel balance, check the drive shaft rear U-Joint. 4. Check your engine timing, , ignition points, plug wires, spark plugs, do a compression check, check and adjust valve clearance and then have the carbs looked at be a competent Brit car mechanic/tech. Check air filters. 5. Put the car on a lift and look at the exhaust system. 6. Service your cooling system, drain and flash the radiator, check the hoses and replace as necessary, check the thermostat. 7. If you have not changed oil and filter in some time, consider it. Replenish with 30 weight or 20-50.. no need to use the modern synthetic oils. Go to MGEXP internet discussion group for more advice Also check out KZbin videos by John Twist.

Jeff Thanks for all your time on suggestions. I have the car out in a bay at my shop and will check out all these things. I was planning to take a shot at the carbs with the help of some new tools and KZbin. I get most of my facts on cars from Wikipedia, not always accurate. As you can tell from my site, I know a little bit about a lot of cars, but I am not an expert on any. I like all cars

Great video very nice MGB. I have a 68 red, 71 white, 79 Yellow, 79 and 80 Black Limited Edition. I don't think its a fuel pump issue. The Stock fuel pumps will work or not unless you have a ground issue. Check the the ground - Black wire inside the trunk connected at the rear mount of the license plate. Poor idle may be gummed up jet needles. Carb cleaner will help clean them up without the need to buy rebuild kits. It helps if you run the fuel out of the carbs ever time you will shut the car off for the day. The new fuel has alcohol and additives and it dries in the bowels and gums up your carbs. This cause the issues you are having with idle and poor running issues. I put a fuel pump cut off switch to run the fuel out. Your slave or master clutch cylinder may need rebuilding or replacing. I would check your brake master cylinder while your at it. It will keep you from having a brake failure at the worst minute. Yes I'm an MGB hoarder..LOL!

Thanks, I was in the car yesterday. I do only use no ethanol gasoline religiously. I might put the carb cleaning on my project list. Right now it is pretty long. I am attending classes this summer at McPherson college maybe I will take those carbs with me

I grew up in Wichita 50s/60s and my parents were into British sports cars. Their first was a new 59 Bug Eyed Sprite and I loved it. I was small enough to fit between and a little behind the seats but mostly it was my Mom's driver. My Dad was too tall. 2 years later they traded it in for a year old Healey 3000 that my Dad could fit in and had jump seats for me in the back. My Dad would take me out on I35 to "blow the carbs out" and definitely break the speed limit. To my horror, my Dad sold the Healey when I was 15 and bought a VW. I eventually forgave him😉. My first car a few years later was a pretty well used 56 MGA and I dearly loved it. It only lasted about 6 months before the engine broke and Dad sold it. Fastforward to this year. I bought a very nice 77 MGB roadster from an older neighbor who said it sat (mostly) for 15 years but in a garage. It runs well but I'm finding a few parts that were ignored for too long and am getting them all sorted out. I just replaced the ruined old top yesterday and it looks so much nicer now. Next up is getting the overdrive working again. I enjoyed your video and just subscribed. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like you have a very loud facet fuel pump in that car. They run all the time, but yours sounds real loud. Like the color of the 72 my wife's 76 seems to be the same. If you put an SU pump in you would see they only tic when they build up pressure an then again when it is needed. I have a70 B also with the facet pump and it runs all the time. I am not totally sure but I think you were trying to start your B with your clutch depressed. That is a real no no. JOHN TWIST of University motors did a U tube on why you should not. He is the top person on MGs . Check him out. THANKS for the video and happy motoring, safety fast. WARREN,
