It's impossible to see the young Michael without a smile in my face (even though we all know what was happening on the backstages). And the most fascinating seeing these footage in the (now) future is that we know everything he would eventually do and how high his name and carreer would reach. Michael did so many amazing things that sometimes looks like he's more than one person. A trully amazing achievement and a gift for all of us.

Michael has ALWAYS (before AND after 1972) said that James Brown was his primary musical influence, in addition to Sammy Davis, Jr., Jackie Wilson, The Nicholas Brothers, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and other individuals. By 1972, Michael had learned a lot about the music industry. As a result, he knew how to answer questions during an interview according to the audience. I'm not saying he didn't listen to the artists he mentioned during this interview on American Bandstand. He just knew by this time how to answer questions based on the audience. Also, by 1972, Berry Gordy and other adults knew that Michael could hold his own during an interview and they were no longer advising or telling him how to respond to questions during an interview.

poor guy. no life for a child... all those public obligations, playing a role, all those eyes at him, probing, having to always make a great apperance, doing things he might not feel comfortable with at times.... hard to discover yourself, to grow into yourself while the whole world is staring at you, making you into an idol before you even know who you are.. strangers falling for you and idolizing you..before you even understand anything about intimate relationships...hard to think that a child must develop and mature under all that craziness and keeping up with the apperances... he looks a bit fed up and more restrained and self conscious here.. like his sparkly child innocence is starting to get tamed under all those staring adoring yet judging eyes..
