I used to use petroleum jelly to prime oil pumps, it dissolves in the oil, will be flushed out after run in and stays where you put it until oil is flowing, cranks and bearing surfaces were always well oiled on assembly and the cam used a molly based run in lube that was as sticky as shit on a blanket.

I also had an helicoil on my oil pump lower stud .I suspect a factory machining error on the 72 model .Strange it happen only on the lower stud

the reson to fit from the back is so as not to have a loose nut flying round in case it would come loose. it would be stopped by the case cover

what do you think about priming the pump with petroleum jelly as per the recommendation for the Buick V8’s?
