I was 17 years old and a senior in high school when this event took place. Four years older I spent two summer months in Israel volunteering at a wonderful place called Kibbutz Nir David and also touring the country visiting Christian archeological sites in Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerico and of course Jerusalem and both the Jews and the Palestinian Arabs were good to me. The recent war in Gaza is breaking my heart and I sincerely hope that the many good people I met there are doing okay.

The Germans shoulder the tragic outcome here. The Israelis made a request to manage this attack, but it was refused by the Germans. The IOC also, to allow these games to be held with virtually no security. History did a let’s do it again from Black September and all the doors were open. RIP, will never be forgotten. 🙏🇦🇺😢

I wasn't born until 1992, and I somehow never heard of this. I'm so shocked that the camera crew revealed the snipers, but it says a lot to how new this was and how out-of-depth they were.

I remember this well though I was ten years old at the time. Looking back now I am amazed and quite shocked that West Germany were even allowed to host the Olympic Games only 27 years from the end of WW2 and the true horrors of the Holocaust - that stadium was within walking distance of a concentration camp. .
@russellfrancis62945 ай бұрын
I hadn't been born at the time, but I know the story of this incident. And the ineptitude of the Germans surrounding all this is upsetting. The German official blaming the Israeli weightlifters widow was cowardly.

I watched these events unfold with a friend who at the time was an army Major. He was horrified by the tactical blunders - especially not preventing TV coverage, moving terrorists and hostages out of a controlled location, and setting up a badly planned ambush in an open area at night. He believed that the West German authorities were less concerned about rescuing the hostages and more concerned with passing the problem off to someone else (preferably in a different country).

Not just the Germans but even the news filming them. They certainly did not have the technology or experience we do now days. We do not teach enough history now days to educate our young. Instead they feel sorry for those who do the killing.

It bothers me that just because of their police state experience, the notion of arming the police merely for protection not aggression made the Germans stomachs turn. What sheepishness !

A minute or two of silence at the beginning of the games isn't political. It's showing respect to those athletes who we're killed before the could achieve their dream.

In my professional opinion I would have made my move and taken them when they were most vulnerable and with terrorists in blind spots from one another ???? That’s right. During transfer. Make my move when they see the bus in garage and feel good like almost home then hit them from all angles. It’s over inside 10 seconds. ??? Hit them hard suddenly in transit. More would have survived I’m sure of it. An Enteebe raid but down in that parking garage. The terrorists are all boxed in. No escape. Very limited movement. This was a total disaster what the west Germans did EVERYTHING WRONG. EVERYTHING

The Germans were in a no-win situation. There was no way to attack the terrorists inside the Village without risking some loss of life of the Israelis. Plus, until the transfer to the helicopters, the Germans had no clue how many terrorists there actually were, which made any sort of rescue attempt fraught with problems. Of course, there were all kinds of issues with the eventual attack at Fürstenfeldbruck, but that’s another story altogether.

I believe that Palestinians will never change. After all the terrorist attacks over the years there has in my view no evidence of reform on the part of the Palestinians. They love the sight of blood and themselves to be righteous in their quest to kill Israelis; but each and every one of them will give account to God Almighty for killing His people.
