After getting the DT2 running in last week's video, I've been itching to get it out on the road and into the trails to see how it handles itself. First though, there are a couple maintenance items that need done. Had an issue getting into look at the oil injection pump because of the screw heads rounding out, so I made a batch of pre-mix and went for a ride until I can work on that. Now I can focus on making things shiny and pretty looking knowing its a true runner!

I had the 125cc version of this bike back in 1978/79, right before i got my drivers license. I bet I rode it one million miles.

I wish more people appreciated how good these bikes were/are. The new generation coming up looks at them and sees nothing of value, which could not be further from the truth. I have a very clean 78 DT100 in great shape that I have been attempting to sell, and the lack of interest has been amazing. I appreciate your channel and keeping the interest alive in these classic machines.

A lot of kids have no idea or drive to work on mechanical stuff anymore…I think that’s the problem. Everything is disposable to them. Thanks for tuning in! Comments like these are what it’s all about!

Sad but true! I love the old DTs. Restoring a 78 DT400 right now. Too bad we are more than likely living in different parts of the country because i might have been interested in your DT100

Sweet bike! When those old Phillips head screws round off I have luck using a dremel with a small cut off disc to make a straight slot across the head. Then use the large slot head impact attachment, usually grabs. 👍

My first bike I learned on was a 1979 RM80 in ‘93. Since then I’ve had an XR200, XR400, XR650R and all my XL’s. I think since my first bike was a 2 stroke, it kinda takes me back to the beginning again lol

You are right on with that. It’s a great bike and timeless design! Works amazingly well for being considered “vintage”. Greetings from the USA!

I really like this bike, i had a 71 dt1 for a while when i was younger it was a strong bike. It’s awesome you were able to get all those fuel cap pieces. I wonder as well if compression will come up after running it. Nice work 👍🏻

Thank you! I haven’t had a chance to run another compression test but we shall see! DTs are quickly becoming a favorite of mine…right up there with my XRs.

Btw referring to 78 because that’s when I was 14 and every kid had a dt or an Al or xr Honda with the occasional bultaco or even Harley sprints 😎keep bringing em back!!!

Nice! I just bougt a DT2 and trying to get it in running condition. Just got mine to start today after cleaning the carb. Is that rattling noise at 15:45 - 15:48 normal?

Nice! This one is my favorite DT so far. Just looks great and runs good too. I think the camera was picking up acoustics on the motor on deceleration.

@@Garage2Trail Thanks, yeah im really looking forward to getting mine in running condition. Asking as mine was making a similar noise. I suspect it's the piston rattling in the cylinder. I'd really appreciate if you can take a quick listen in my video below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWXbc52ljKaSgMU

@@charlesb.9809 had a listen and it sounds just like mine. I’ve had people comment on mine saying it reminded them of theirs because it sounded the same. Not sure if that’s maybe just the way those engines sounded or if it’s play in the wrist pin possibly. I haven’t had enough to know for sure. I know mine is a strong running bike and doesn’t overly smoke or anything so I’m not too worried about it.
