@@LivetofishOutboardRepair so I got my carburetors rebuilt and putting them back on there I cant get it to start with out starting fluid and once it's going with stay running under it's own power but the idle is a little rough what do you think it could be??
@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 жыл бұрын
@@13tayder it sounds like your idle circuits in the carbs are still plugged or possibly your air/fuel mixture screws need adjusted. Carefully screw in the air mixture screws in until lightly seated then back them out 1-1/2 turns. This should be the factory setting. Then adjust them in or out to get best idle.

@@13tayder yes when the motor gets to its normal operating temp you will eventually see water coming out from both openings.

On seals spring side up out down. And what were you using for the gasket hold? And what oil did you use what weight?
@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 ай бұрын
From my recollection the drive shaft seals are stacked with the spring down. You can view diagrams of your LU gearcase at www.marineengine.com I also use PERMATEX Aviation Sealer #3 for my gaskets. Also I use a high grade synthetic marine grade gear oil 85 -140 weight

mooresey009 … Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to watch. You should be able to find what you need at www.marineengine.com and cross reference the part numbers on eBay for a lower price. Try to buy OEM parts when possible.

Nice but why did you put all new coils? Or is that how a toon up calls for? I’m wondering because I have a 76 77 &a 98 Evinrude 85hp motors that I try to fix for my self. Thanks

Mike Slavin… Great question! I replaced the coils because they all had cracks and even if they worked at idle would probably have broken down at WOT. You should always replace coils if they have visible cracks. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hey LivetoFish that was a great video sir I just wanted to ask after you did all the repairs witch was outstanding…when the motor was running I couldn’t see the water coming out of the two holes and I was wondering if you could still run your engine like that?.
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
Brian Dotson… water typically comes out of one hole until the motor warms up once hot It comes out both holes in the higher the RPM the more water comes out. I hope that helps..

@@LivetofishOutboardRepair Thanks LivetoFish I appreciate you…I have a Johnson/Evinrude just like the one in your video it’s a 1975 85hp it runs great but I have to spray pre-mix to start it can you please share some of your knowledge to help me fix this sir.🙏
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
@Brian Dotson thanks for your comments and question. The reason you have to spray pre-mix in the carb to get it running is because you need to rebuild the carbs. Your primer may not be working or the idle circuits could be plugged. The carbs should be disassembled and soaked in parts cleaner for a few hours. Use carb cleaner for a final cleaning and blow out all holes and jets with clean compressed air. If it seems to idle ok and is just hard to start the problem maybe that your choke is not working or your not using the correct startup procedure. Also make sure your fuel tank, fuel lines, connections and primer bulb are in good working order (no leaks or pinholes)

@@einz2007 it is important to make sure that the appropriate coil is connected to the proper cylinder. Each of these coils are wired to the switchbox and trigger. If you do not connect them properly they will not fire at the proper time and this will cause running issues or won’t run at all.

I have a 1976 75hp evinrude and I have to use the warm up lever to sometimes just get it to idle without shutting off on me driving it on the boat trailer have restart it 3 or 4 times when i do get it started i have to rev it up a couple time before i put it in gear to run it on the trailer am thinking it is idled to slow the original owner told me.the guy I bought it from said the idle was to high so this weekend I changed the water pump and the thermostat because he said it was 2012 when it was done last the thermostat have 76 printed on the side of it we have taken the carburetors apart and cleaned them but it still hates ti idle and will not start unless I use the warm up lever even if I have been running around the lake for a hour at full speed it run with no issues I am getting over 30 mph

I ment indexing the standard plugs with electrodes. The reason it didn't run as well when I changed to the surface gap plugs was due to a missing Cylinder.
