I would need to have the model number to see if it has a tt. The only way to tell if the water pump is working is if water is coming out the telltale. If not it's either plugged up or the impeller is worn out.

You probably already have your pressure washer fixed by now, BUT OK! Yes i have a TroyBuilt i bought Refurbished from Sears in 2010 AND IT HAS BEEN A GREAT MACHINE!!! Well last year it just went KA PUT on a job i had to finish, So i figured it was time to R & R the pump. When i took the pump off i quickly discovered there was a problem THERE WAS NO KEY. so i figured just go to ACE HARDWARE and pickup a small 1/4 inch X 1/4 inch key square stock, Well when i went to install it the pump STILL turned and was DEFINITELY not ENGAGING with the engine. I was stumped for about 1/2hr. when i finally RELIESED that one side (that engages engine to the pump) HAD TO BE LONGER/THICKER by about 1/16 of an inch to 1/8 of an inch. So i grabbed my mig welder and piled on the material (VERY CAREFULLY) then when i was done i grinded the taller side of the key flat and installed on the shaft, BUTT the key would NOT SIT still when i wanted to install the pump on the engine shaft SO i tack welded the key on the engine shaft. aaaaannnd WA LA the pressure washer finished the job!! and has worked ever since. PRAISE BE TO GOD!!

The good news is that they are very close together with little variation, however. 120 is on the lower end of the acceptable range. 140 is considered healthy for this motor. Try another Compression gauge and make sure your battery is good.

I have a problem with my 25 hp Mercury 2-stroke engine. It is pulling the transmission oil towards the exhaust and in addition to that, water is entering the transmission. What could be causing this?
@LivetofishOutboardRepair
@LivetofishOutboardRepair 14 күн бұрын
If you are referring to black unburnt fuel/oil coming from the exhaust this might be from the motor burning rich. It might need a carb clean, spark plugs / wires or new coils to resolve it. Water entering the gearcase would be due to failing seals and will require a pressure/vacuum test to determine which seals need replacing (prop shaft, drive shaft or shift shaft seals).

Is the shifter hard to move even when the cable is dissconnected? If so try rotating the prop or flywheel slowly by hand while shifting. This might help. The shift rail might just need cleaned and lubricated. If this does not work you may need to take a look at the shift cam inside the lower unit.

Like the guy below said.....there is exhaust blowing into the water jackets somewhere. Most likely under the exhaust cover where the water circulates to cool the exhaust. I have seen a gazillion old outboards and chainsaws with scored pistons, that is not a heat problem. Heat WILL cause it but it will not generate heat . Low compression does not generate heat. That pressure from that tell tale hose is exhaust blowing into your water path, interrupting water flow and filling it with HOT exhaust......boiling, or near boiling, the little water that gets through.
@LivetofishOutboardRepair
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Ай бұрын
Thanks for the information. I understand and agree what you are saying about the exhaust gases getting into the water jacket. The owner wanted this motor tuned up and running well in order to sell. I told him with the pistons being scored I would not sell it for him. The damage had been done and it really needed a rebuild. The owner failed to mention to me that he had overheated the motor while trying to race back to the dock when he discovered the problem. So regardless as to how it happened the owner decided to part out the motor. Obviously the overheated condition scored the pistons and the owner didn't want to put anymore money into it to fix it. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your feedback
