This is one of the 728 Stage-1s built in 1973, it's verified by the V in the vin #. This car underwent a body off frame restoration. It was rust free to begin with. During the restoration it was given a few upgrades to make it the ultimate. How about a 500 hp motor, a 4-speed and a power sunroof from ASC.
EXTERIOR: Rust free original metal. Is this straight as an arrow. The black paint has a mirror reflection. There are a few imperfections- chips on the hood and a couple small cracks on the roof. The jambs are repainted, weatherstrips were replaced. The half roof is painted gloss white. A power sunroof was recently professionally added by ASC, they install sunroofs for GM. The bumpers are shiny but appear to be original. It has original glass. It has stock 15" Buick mags, trim rings look new.
INTERIOR: Original, unabused interior. There's no rips or tears. The white is a little dirty in the nooks and crannies, I believe it will clean up real nice. The door panels the same way, a little dirty but they're straight and not beat up, cracked or torn. The dash pad is excellent, there's no cracks. Headliner is new. It has a factory gauge cluster. It also has a Sun tachometer, oil and temp gauges. The owner's manual is in the glove box.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has a correct 1973 455 motor that was given a performance build. Estimated close to 450 hp. The engine is painted nice, has Stage-1 chrome valve covers. The air cleaner assembly is painted glass black and has stickers and heat riser tube. Features include power steering and power brakes. The wiper motor is replaced. It has the proper shroud and overflow bottle. The battery has a disconnect switch. The engine bay is gloss black.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Perfectly dry clean metal, it has a nice satin black finish. It has an F 70 15 polyglass tire and a Buick mag for a spare. The complete jack assembly is properly bolted in place.
UNDERSIDE: The body was removed from the frame for a thorough restoration. The floors are immaculate and painted a smooth gloss black. Uncut original metal. The front end has been apart and rebuilt. Rear suspension was apart, new bushings and hardware. Upgraded Koni gas shocks all around. Disc brakes in front. The hoses and lines were replaced, E-brake cable is hooked up. Dual exhaust has turn down tips. The fuel tank was clear coated. Looking up at the motor it's clean, starter looks new. The Muncie 4-speed is believed to be an M-22. The linkage and clutch was replaced. In back it has a 3.42 posi.
This is a unique, very rare car. It also makes a great driver, take it anywhere!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.

As I watched this, I started to get goose bumps until I realized this was my car. I started a frame off restoration in the late 80’s and ultimately sold it in 2003. What great memories. Thanks for sharing… 😀

Too bad *they cut a hole in the roof* and they should *have left it an automatic.* Certainly not one to invest in, it's *one to drive.* Identified by the V-code in their VIN, Buick only built 728 in 1973 and only 92 got the Muncie M-20 transmission with a Hurst shifter. Only 46 of those were air conditioned. According to the Stage 1 registry, he says, less than 10 four-speed cars are known to exist

The Buick nice car ,it's the 4 speed that Interests me the most. My guess for this car, very rare info on it. The options are interesting ,rear 3:42 s , 455 ci, 450hp, bucket seats, 4, speed stick wow real nice ,I would guess around $30,000 and the seller should jump for joy on that price.

Seen a few 73 and 74 GS 455s up close in person in my day. Awesome cars. Definitely keeping the muscle car flame burning well into the 1970s. Always had a fondness for the GM colonnades. Does this have the cool swivel buckets? : )

I owned a new ‘73 Chevelle SS that shared this body style. The de-tuned 350 c.i. was the “performance” engine… and it was a DOG compared to my ‘70 SS 396. Mine had the swivel buckets that was a unique feature, but frankly a pain in the butt to operate that took some force to swing, and if you didn’t have them fully swiveled 90 degrees, your door wouldn’t shut. The appearance of the protruding 5 mph bumpers took some getting used to. This GS looks damn good for what it is.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. The 70 SS with a 396 was a big block and the 73 350 is a small block. The 396 was at least 10:1 compression while the 350 was capped at 8.5:1. It was probably also geared pretty conservatively. With the aftermarket parts available today I’d be willing to bet I could get the 350 to embarrass the 396 with a $3000 rebuild.

@@Primus54 I didn’t mean to offend, sorry if I did. I’m just trying to drum up support and interest for the post muscle car era cars. You are absolutely correct that by 73 high performance was pretty much dead except for very few examples. This Buick was fast for its time. The 73-74 Pontiac SD 455 Firebirds were among the fastest cars built up to that time and took up until the late 90s to equal its performance. I’m just basically trying to point out that even though the muscle car era cars were unquestionably faster than the malaise era cars, it doesn’t take much to make a malaise era car perform as good as, and in some aspects better than the traditional muscle cars.

@@mikee2923 No worries, Mike. Looking back at my original comment I could have been more clear about my engine criticism. And certainly car enthusiasts have performed miracles in getting max performance out of de-tuned monsters. I grew up during the peak of the muscle/pony car craze, so when I started to make a decent income I dreamt of buying something super high performance. My ‘70 I bought used with (relatively for the time) high miles. The ‘73 was my first new car. It was in many respects superior in ways that I now appreciate… but didn’t then. But of the 60’s and early 70’s era cars I owned and wished I could make reappear it was my ‘67 Cougar XR7, oddly enough. It was beautiful, classy, and unique with its European style interior gauges and toggle switches. Have a great day! ~ John in Ohio 👍

Agreed. It is a very nice car. I do see a few things I didn’t like. Concerning the power sunroof, GM used to put a power sunroof in these cars. Instead of a sliding glass panel, it actually had a sliding steel panel. It was an option in my 75 Grand Prix which is basically the same body style. I am unsure what year they introduced it. The correct 4 speed for this car would have been a Muncie M20. Also I believe the rear differential should have been the large Pontiac sourced 8 7/8” MP which was used in full sized cars and station wagons and in select high performance mid sized cars of this era which this car definitely is. I saw 1 original 27,000 mile 73 GS Stage 1 with a 4 speed and this is what it had. Never saw an original automatic which this car was originally.

I wouldn't say that the 4 speed is an upgrade from the factory turbo hydromatic 400 transmission because the stage one transmissions are not regular 400 transmissions.they have more clutch plates in the direct clutch drum for third gear. Unless it has had a stage two camshaft installed it's not 500 horsepower. If it was 500 horsepower it would have run a much better time than 13 seconds.

While the previous generation was faster, this era of cars were superior from most other standpoints. Front disc brakes were standard on GM mid sized cars starting in 73. Despite their increased weight, their handling, cornering and stopping abilities were light years ahead. The other thing is most of these cars shared the same drivetrain as the previous generation, just in a detuned form. With the availability of aftermarket performance parts these cars can be made to run just as good as any of the previous generation of cars. They are also more durable. The “ugly chrome plated railroad tie” bumpers weren’t damaged like the previous era’s bumpers in a simple parking lot bump. The newer era cars were more likely to have A/C, P/W etc even though this further increased weight. One main downside to the later era cars was most of them were automatic transmissions. While I love traditional muscle cars, I like the early colonnade cars better simply because they are better driving cars. Their lack of power is easily fixed. Car shows are littered with Chevelles, GTOs, etc. They are much too common. I can’t take my 75 Grand Prix out without complements and people saying they had a similar car and wished they’d never let it go. I think it is mainly because you never see cars like it in good shape anymore.

@@markbuchanan3694 G.M. profits have nothing to do with Buick being well made or a high performance vehicle for that matter. Buick engines are the worst piles of junk G.M. ever designed, who in there right mind would produce a aluminum front cover that houses a oil pump with steel gears? For every one Chevy motor that failed tens of thousands of Buicks developed rod knocks. Spun bearing caused by low or no oil pressure made many engine rebuilders very wealthy. Buicks are pure $hit, sending them all to a demo derby is doing the world a gigantic favor.
