This reminds me of something that happened as a kid when we lived on Long Island. We had a ‘73 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham, our good friend neighbors (Jack and Alison) had a ‘73 Buick Electra 225. Both family’s were taking their respective college freshman kids (my sister, and their son) to the same school in upstate NY. Both family’s drove together on the way up to drop the kids, we stayed over in a motel. They evening my father and Jack were arguing over some cocktails at the pool who’s car was better, and it was decided that they would switch cars for the drive home to decide. My father hated the Buick, and at a rest stop on the New York State thruway demanded to trade back, Jack was having none of it and he jumped in our Chrysler and sped off! The next year Jack traded his Buick for a ‘74 Chrysler Imperial, just to one up us! Jack was a cool guy!

That is a fantastic Story! I love hearing stuff like that.....plus I grew up on Long Island so I have a mental image too!!! The two cars either driving up the NY Thruway together or the Hutchen River Parkway.....or driving over the Whitestone Bridge!!!

I grew up riding in one. My momma had an orange 73' LeSabre Limited. It had the 455 V8 and was the biggest gas drinker we ever owned. Only got about 10mpg and water would come around the driver's side passenger window in the car wash.

I learned to drive in a 73 LeSabre and owned a used one eight years later. One of the prettiest cars I've ever owned. Or should I say "one of the prettiest boats I've ever owned?" Only problem with it was that deep puddles during heavy rains would wet the distributor cap and cause it to stall out.

I also learned to drive in my Mom's 73 Buick LeSabre. It was a beautiful, clean white with a navy landau roof and navy interior. So many memories of being driven to and from school in that car. It was a 4 door and the roomy back seat was so comfy, like a bed.
@timward311611 ай бұрын
@@serenatwilite4005 That really was a great car, and your mom's was a really great color combination. I loved the old days when we could pick from a variety of colors for the interiors and exteriors. Those days are pretty much gone, though.

This era was the sweet spot for the ‘true’ luxury Buick’s...size, style, comfort, grace and safety for the money! Also these beautiful cars could be endlessly optioned to suit the individual needs or wants of buyers of the time, so could be almost as basic as a nicer Chevy or as loaded as a top-of-the-line Cadillac!

Not really, In the last 4 years, there has been a move back to color. Blue, Green, Copper, Brown and shades of Red are now seen more regularly. 2010 thru 2016 really was the era of Black, Silver and White. Times change, fads change, trends change.

Had a 73 Electra coupe for my first car. Actually owned two of these over the years. Wretched ignition systems. They used to eat points. I had to carry spares, as they’d go without warning. I miss the styling and ride, though.

I know how you feel. I was a teenager when these were new and had to wait until the early '80s before I bought my first Buick--an '83. It was also my last as it was not good quality and neither were Buicks back in '73. But yes, they were styled by imaginative artisans back then. (Even more so in the '50s) Today, they are molded by an impersonal wind tunnel and they all look alike. On the positive side, today's cars are of higher quality and are definitely much, much safer with great technology. But they all look alike and are so boring!!
@rightlanehog31516 жыл бұрын
I agree with much of what you are saying but the 455 engines in those full size Buicks were as smooth as melted butter. In those days it was also possible to choose from a multitude of color choices for the exterior and interior of your vehicle. It wasn't just gray/black cloth or gray/black leather so you could order your car the way you liked it.
@bighands696 жыл бұрын
+Pastor Matthew Those Buicks were of a quality on par with Mercedes but were a third of the price. Today's cars are safer because they have had 40 years of engineering and Airbags are also a 1970s technology. Cars all look the same today because regulations have pushed them in that direction.

Good morning Mr Tramain best regards you have the widest collection of TV ads for American marks . But it's about time i gotta make a question : What does the name Buick refers to ? Is It "Buick" the surname of any engineer or is the name of an American big predator bird as an eagle or so ?
