i ran cross country for a very small high school and I was number one because no one else on the team took it seriously, it was just to add to their college applications as an activity. Anyway we competed against other small schools and I did ok I thought. then we ran in Regionals against much bigger schools, I realized how average I was when about half way through the race, some tall lanky runner ran past me wearing basketball high top sneakers... it was humbling. Good times.
