They were the Halcyon days of speedway . Brilliant time to be a speedway fan ..

50/50 for me on this one, Collins did leave a big gap going in, and I think I’d have had a go at that gap too ?! But as they came together it was clear anders wasn’t quick enough to get through, and the gap closed, hard call,

Takes courage to be a referee, arguably more so back then, Make the best decision you can, go with it whilst taking cover. Great sport and magical times for those of us lucky to watch live speedway in the 70's

Being a Reading supporter at the time and just 8 years old I was 😢😢 after AM was excluded 🤣🤣🤣 but most probably the right decision - only taken 50 more years to admit to it 😁😁😁

Dave Landing was the best speedway commentator hands

I meant Dave Lanning was best speedway commentator! My smartphone is too sensitive texting. Yes, Dave was the best. He made it exciting for people who had never seen speedway. One of a kind.

I think you are right ..Collins tried to come in and close the gap too late.. Collins clipped the back wheel ..

Yep, n if there was a marginal touch, that wasn't what upset Collins, Mitch was already past before Collins got unsettled
@graemedoolan4107 Жыл бұрын
John, there was nothing in that touch though I reckon, And yes, Mitch was fully alongside going into the corner, Collins may have already committed to that line, n yes he did come down a tad, but that was already going on, n Mitch kept his trajectory too, n Collins had to stand the bike up a bit, n a little surprised by the body language, so to be fair they both held their lines, n the bit of a Bork from Collins n stood the bike up a tad, as Mitch went under him, has unsettled Collins front end, n his body weight distribution didn't do him any favours, but ya can see Mitch's wheel had already passed Collins front wheel, (yeah may have been a little touch on the way through) but that wasn't what unsettled him, It's was a them factors ultimately manifested by shock, 😁, Where'd the hell you come from 😁🤣

As a huge PC fan i think it was harsh on Anders he was probably the best rider in the world in 1973 and he had to try and pass its a race isnt it ? Peter was passed and laid it down as he had nowhere else to go

Michanek did admit years later that he did touch Collins
@wilburollie2 жыл бұрын
Mich was too far back to make that move and no way could have made the turn without drifting wide so for me looked like the right decision

Would a referee from today have seen that incident in the same way, I wonder?
@graemedoolan4107 Жыл бұрын
Not a chance!! And too professional now to let the crowd influence their decisions!!
@graemedoolan4107 Жыл бұрын
There was nothing in it!! If mich did marginally touch Collins front wheel, it wasn't that, that unsettled Collins , Mich was alongside of Collins going into the corner, n carrying more speed, n yeah Collins did come down a fraction, but that was already going on, so given both of their trajectory, they both held their lines, and if anything unsettled Collins bike, it was the fact that, as Mich swept in under Collins, he's borked n pulled his head up, n stood his bike up a bit (like Where TF did you come from?) This changing the weight distribution, n by then michs rear wheel was past Collins front wheel, but due to the said factors, (mainly weight distribution) Collins front was on its way, with his weight forward n off to the left, n the front went right, n down he went 🤷 That's racing 😁

Very odd to see the Black exclusion flag accompanied by a white flag and not the standard disk, anyone got a 1973 rule book to check this in ?

Absolutely bad decision to me.. Seems like harbinger of modern speedway where forcing contact and fall is on daily occurence. Collins was very incoherent getting into first bend, left enormous space, and it was way too late when he finally gather himself together and tried to block Michanek. It's obvious to me that Briton should be excluded in that situation.
@graemedoolan4107 Жыл бұрын
The crowd made that decision!! There wasn't anything in that !! He got alongside of Collins well before the corner, n if there was a marginal touch, that wasn't what upset Collins, he was nearly half a wheel past before Collins started to get unsettled, n hooked it up n went down!! The ref was influenced by the crowd
