It is a beast. I was worried about the owner as he is 79 years old. He told me he is going to sell it.

I had single stage like that years ago. Yes, it threw the snow good but it was only one speed and for it to throw the snow well, the speed was too fast. I finally traded it after fighting it.

I fixed a 4hp moto mower single stage snowthrower and it also spun the auger all the time as the centrifugal clutch had little drag. Runs good only thing it could use is some wheel chains.

How's she goin'? Nice fix again Bruce. That was an interesting solution to the surge. I have worked on a lot of engines that surge and never thought of the bowl level as being a cause. But it make sense eh. Merry Christmas and take 'er easy!!

Hey Bruce this is unrelated to this video but I was wondering if you have any suggestions on something I might have missed working on another Quantum. This is a garbage pick but not too bad. Did the usual things which included cleaning and rebuilding the carb. I have worked on a ton of these and never had this problem. I replaced the cracked primer bulb and made sure it seated. I doubled up the gasket between the air filter box and the carb (known problem). It still will not prime. I triple gasketed between air filter box and carb. Still no prime. Took the carb off again and made sure the channel that blows air into the bowl to push gas up the emulsion tube is clear. It is. Put everything back together and still no prime. I know you love these motors as much as I and have worked on many. What, if anything, am I missing?
@waynestefinashen239 Жыл бұрын
This is the OLD MAN @ EP and just wondering if you made sure the screen behind the primer bulb was totally cleaned? It is extremely rare that we have used two gaskets on the Quantum air filter housing and special care must be taken when using more than one since we have seen many carbs with stripped threads when they come in with two gaskets. Appears they were overtightening to get the hockey stick shaped design pushed into the gasket. Basically what we do is always try to use the original gasket since it will have this design already compressed into it but if damaged we install a new gasket which has been soaked in hot water to soften it. We then install this softened gasket and hand tighten the carb bolts, hit the primer bulb watching how much fuel comes up the emulsion tube. If the amount is minimal and not a minium of 1/4" high we remove the air cover then remove the new gasket to see which area of the hockey stick design has not been formed in the gasket (normally it is the bottom straight length). We then apply a thin coat of RTV gasket maker with a wooden pointed skewer to the edge of this area on the plastic housing then reapply the gasket. Once installed and primed we have only once had an issue where we had to replace the air filter housing due to excessive warpage. I have always wondered if a piece of cellophane tape on the hockey stick shape )leaving the hole area open would do the job but have never tried it yet. Hope this works for you!

Good reply Wayne. As well i would check the intake manifold tube that leaves the carburetor crossing over the engine top to the intake valve. That devil can crack or come loose.
@waynestefinashen239 Жыл бұрын
Yep have seen that a couple of times Bruce@@BrucesShop
@jws3925 Жыл бұрын
@@waynestefinashen239 thanks Wayne. It is worth a try. Tomorrow I will take the two gaskets out and put a single new one in and after running it for a while take the air box back off and examine the imprint on the gasket. The area in question for me was/is just where you said (the bottom straight area). Just to let you know how weak (nearly non-existent) the prime is-----I can push the bulb in 10-12 times only see a little dribble maybe twice. Definitely not a squirt.
@jws3925 Жыл бұрын
@@BrucesShop thanks Bruce, I will check that as well. I did not inspect that at all. Worth a look.

Yes these auger sdon't turn off. I checked everywhere. It is a 1973. I asked you about this one a few weeks ago :-0
@haneyoakie14 Жыл бұрын
@@BrucesShop the one that got me was 1976. It has the gear knob to engage / disengage the auger. So your example here spins the auger when you pull the rope, if you are pull starting it? Electric is nice, but usually just for 1st start in the garage. Starting when warm is usually a manual process.
