Bill Mercer of WCCW wrestling fame, still with us at 96

Bill was also a well known baseball announcer for the Texas league. Second the Rangers showed up, he was immediately a front runner.

Harry Caray was actually good play by play guy before morphing into the cartoon caricature drunk voice of the Cubs later on.

Agree 100%...especially the last few years and doing that stupid commercial where he's stuffing a hot dog in his mouth..

Harry and Buck are outstanding. They shuffle Harry and Jimmy (only Veeck would give Jimmy two hours in front of a live mic...I have to credit that it lasted that long to Harry's skill.) back and forth from tv to radio so it's hard to get a full game. But he is still good here.

The hitters didn’t exactly work the count during this exciting contest! Can’t imagine a game like that today. Finally, I found Bill Mercer’s play-by-play to be quite entertaining!

More White Sox games please! Like in 1972 season ?!

Monkey Boy wants White Sox vs Red Sox anywhere at anytime. Some persons would have their favorite radio station logo permanently tattooed on their forehead for a game like that.

That had to be considered a fast-played ball game, and a night of 'barelys!' The game last 2 hours and a minute in ten innings, and the attendance barely hit 10,000 (the 1974 Angels drew less than a million--I was one of them as was my father and uncle, and would not go under one million again until 2020 but it was because fans weren't allowed due to Covid 19). Thank you again!

Now I have just remembered where I was on the same day that game was played: San Diego, followed by Ensenada, Mexico with my family (I did not yet know my girlfriend Carolyn, who was living in Malibu)! I had Kentucky Fried Chicken (not yet KFC) for lunch in Ensenada. But I don't remember hearing this old Angels game because we were driving home from San Diego, where during our stay we had been told that Cass Elliot of the Mama's and Papa's died suddenly. Mama Cass was only 32.

3:45 Dick Allen is not playing today , he took infield practice .. He was wearing out his welcome. I think he retired early in September .He signed a 4 yr contract before the 1972 season and quit after 74. At that time he wasnt popular with a faction of the Sox Team

Thank you CBR! And this was an original game between the Angels and the White Sox from what was then called Anaheim Stadium in the era of Dick Allen (RIP) for the White Sox, and Nolan Ryan for the Angels, then known as a 'California' team (lol)! July 30, 1974 fell on a Tuesday, and 1974 was my first baseball season! Harry Caray did not yet sing 'Take Me Out To The Ball Game' or did he?

Harry Caray started singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" starting in 1976 under the Bill Veeck ownership

At least, the White Sox put up thier lights in 1939. The White Sox would be easier to follow, than the Cubs, especially if you work a day job. Go, White Sox!⚾️
