I used to own one great little car

I used to watch mine dissolve before my eyes. Poured Waxoyl into it and ended up with 2 cars rolled into one. Hilarious looking back. My first car as well but owned about 4 over the years. Happy days. Still got bits in the garage!

Pressed Steel (later Pressed Steel Fisher) advised Sir Alec Issigonis of the rust traps in the design but he told them to proceed with it unchanged. Rust proofing is the main area where the Allegro was far better than ADO 16.

I had the Riley Kestrel1300GT..same car but with more posh bits..my first car on the road----after i spent 2 weeks welding patches over rust to get it through an MOT lmao

Me too. Riley Kestrel with a twin carb 1275 engine. It was like a very comfy grown up Mini. My mates in Escorts and Capris all laughed but they couldn't keep up AND they were always being stopped for checks by the police. The little Riley just sailed past un-noticed.

Usually the 1300GT has a brake servo.

Imagine if BMC/BL had given it a reskin in 69/70, with the option of an hatchback and much better rust proofing? No need for the Allegro. A car that could still have been on sale up until the mid 80s with a few additional facelifts. Also build the mini innocenti at Longbridge as well as at their factory in Milan, and BL would have had a British built 3 door hatchback 8 years before the metro. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6qUaYF9lr59oJI

70 mighty HP, eh? 0 to 60 in 20 seconds. I drive a Magnum, 390HP with Stability control, 4 cylinders only when less power, 2 plugs/cylinder, 4,400 lbs of American steel! 5.7 litres. Gas in Alberta less than half of UK. We sell 5m barrels of oil/day.

@@davidwheatcroft2797 I was only correcting the figure you stated. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make, your car is a completely different class of car, costing a lot more to buy and run.

Cost me $6,000 Can 4 years ago; loaded, ESC, big stereo, cruise control, heated seats, thermostat heat front/back, changes timing when using low octane,. Will do 142mph, now, and 170 if you tweak the cheap. Oil cooler, transmission cooler, a/c, heated mirrors - seats fold down to give 6+ft bed. 18mpg highway thru Rockies, doing 130kph. I had a 64 Vitesse, 16 secs to 60. Competition rear end, big copper end pipe, convertible with front passenger seat facing BACKWARDS. Pilot RAF, so no speeding tickets!@@Martindyna

@@davidwheatcroft2797 You got a bargain there ! I remember visiting some friends of family in Canada many years ago and the son had a Mustang. I asked him to spin the rear wheels while stationary with the foot brake on which he did 😂

What's pointless - it's a desirable model of this make of classic car?

Taking an interest in this car? It's pity. Pity for one of the ugliest 'design' disasters ever misconceived. Put it in a crusher, right next to a Princess, but keep the Maxi out of this.

You think it's an Allegro, dont you?

No, the Allegro was ugly, but nowhere near as bad as this. @@conesuela1
