It felt good to make it nice again. Not factory, but good enough for me! Now to paint the car 😅

Very good idea with the shelf paper. I painted all of mine when I redid it. I did use that same paper on a 70s coke machine I restored.

BrianWil89 thank you! I figured if it pealed off, I’ll just reapply or leave it black.

I’m torn between rejuvenating my console or making a custom one with modern gauges. Great work!
@JustMoparJoe4 жыл бұрын
Blown Budget Garage you can unbolt the front piece and mount gauges in the holes. Custom stuff!

Here's a vote for restoration, rather than modern.

For getting the plastic tabs off the cluster if you’re worried about it: Use a rounded xacto knife and carefully slice underneath the melted points on the tabs and they will all break with the tabs still in tact. I then used a hot spike and some plastic to heat graft the tabs back down when I was done. It came out really good

Nice video Joe. Got a question. Did my whole cluster, painted it didn't want the wood grain look. Put everything back, something is burning my wires. Does it make a difference which wires connect where behind the alternator gauge? Or is my volt limiter bad? Thanks
@JustMoparJoe3 жыл бұрын
They likely connect to a certain side from the factory. I’ve seen people bolt them together tightly and black tape the crap out of them. Not really the best practice, but it eliminates the Meter.

Hello I have serious question,how did you remove the dash cluster?really need help, thank you so much
@JustMoparJoe3 жыл бұрын
TekkoMaverick the wood grained plastic is attached to the cluster. There are 3 screws in the top, and 5-6 screws in the front side. Ayer those are out, it will pull out a few inches for you to get to the speedometer cable. It will unclip from the back of the cluster and pull out. Then you’ll need to unplug the harness and carefully unbolt the two posts from the ammeter. Also unplug the headlight switch, wiper switch, etc.I hope this helps. How did you take off the housing without all the gauges coming off with it
@JustMoparJoe10 ай бұрын
There’s 8-10 Phillips head screws on the backside that take off the bezel. The gauges are made into the cluster

How did you remove the gauge cluster from the dash?
@JustMoparJoe2 жыл бұрын
Should be the screws in front and in the top of that black section. If In car, you’ll need to run a hand up and unplug the speedometer cable.

Get yourself a Molotow Chrome paint pen. MUCH better than that acrylic.
@JustMoparJoe2 жыл бұрын
Can it go over the acrylic?
@pauljones20312 жыл бұрын
@@JustMoparJoe Probably not.I'd do a small test on something non important. Lay down some acrylic, give it plenty of tiime to dry, then go over top with the Molotow. Be sure to shake the pen lots. They are available in several tip sizes. Apply thinly,using only enough to cover.
